Quick Look: Celeste

I’m really loving this game so far. Gameplay is so tight and creative. It’s nailing all the major reasons I love platformers.

splatformer > masocore

Splatformer. I wholeheartedly support this term.

This is one of my favorite games of all time. It feels good, its beautiful in so many ways and the protagonist Madeline is fantastic. I make sure not to miss ANY dialogue because it's wonderful

I think masocore makes more sense than splatforner - it’s both broader and more illustrative.

“Splatformer” sounds like Da Blob. A masocore game can bea game of any genre (though, admittedly, primarily platformers and shmups. No one’s made a masocore walking simulator, for example. (Well, aside from Everyone’s Gone To The Rapture. Boom!)) as long as it is punishing while still having the kind of hooks to keep a specific type of player coming back.

I mean Getting Over It,Ikaruga, the Touhou series, AI War, all games I would put under masocore despite not being ‘splatformers’.

It was a perfect example of how dismissing somebody trying to teach you something can badly backfire on you. Most people will probably figure out what the crow is telling him in under 5 tries, if they just listen to the crow and not totally dismiss it.

hmm that last part was brutal just jump... geesh. I feel this game getting 10/10 on ign just eat a nerve with the reviewer about depression and stuff. This is good but not a 10/10 game.

@oasisbeyond: Just to provide another perspective, I have no real relationship with depression or anxiety and I still found the story to be interesting and well done. That aside, I feel that the gameplay here alone is enough to make this a 10/10 game. For me at least.

I'm fine with splatformer. Right now we call those games indie platformers or 'like super meat boy' . Both not great.

Isn't masocore more reserved for the games where the level actively fucks with you while you platform, instead of just being hard but fair ?

Don't watch the latest The Exquisite Corps..
