F1 is scary as shit just watching a video game representation of it. Knowing how fast those cars can go, and how bunched up everyone is at the start. F1 is a disaster waiting to happen. BUT IT'S SO AWESOME!

It's crazy how safe it is now. I mean: crashes still happen all the time but there are barely any injuries. Kubica was an exception, sadly.

Kubica was injured rally driving though. When you see what his car looked like its a testament to how safe those cars are too that he survived it:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2011/feb/06/robert-kubica-rally-accident

I don't think there's a better example of how safe F1 cars are now than watching Webber's crash in Valencia and knowing that seconds after he climbed out and walked away:

What the hell does being an American have to do with it? Have you never played a videogame before? 99% of them use brake as reverse.

But this is a simmy-racing game. Therefore it wouldn't look at other games so much as it would look to real driving and how that works. Therefore it doesn't matter what other games do and instead it does what makes sense to the people that don't drive an automatic transmission car. Which... is what the United States are known for.

Ummmm. An automatic transmission car still requires you to shift into reverse and then accelerate.

Good quicklook, kind of a shame Americans aren't that into F1, it's a very technical sport with a lot of strategy plus the fastest cars in motorsport.

Next year F1 will come to Austin, Texas for the US Grand Prix. Hopefully that will be a success, although there really needs to be some decent American drivers and teams for it to be a hit with the public and I'm not sure they will appear quickly enough to secure a good following. We'll see.

Edit: Here's a video of a recent demo in Austin. These things are fucking monstrously loud with gear shifts like artillery fire.

Also team co-op is a great addition to the game.

Yes, I could have watched this preview on some sim website. I would get the same visual tour of the game only accompanied by some snooty, personal analysis of how "simmy" it is or is not, with no way to really tell for myself without actually sitting behind the controls. I say screw that. Give me the tour and two F1 rtards talking nonsense over those sim guys anyday. That is entertainment. Well done, guys.

Really enjoyed the quick look, I can't wait to play this having spent a lot of time with F1 2010. So you don't know the ins and outs of the rules, it made it more fun to watch :)

"if you put the wheels inside of the car, you're not going to go very far" is possibly the best line ever!

Stick with the racing Drew, as you gradually take off the assists there is a lot of depth to F1

Hmm, seems like most of the info in this QL was incorrect. I found the lack of basic knowledge annoying. Lovin' more vinny and drew QL's but maybe stick to games you have at least a little understanding of.

Poor Drew got screwed with the technical, niche title. F1 demands a lot of knowledge and nobody's gonna understand it in a short period of time. He did as well as could be expected!

I have no F1 knowledge and am considering picking this up primarily because of the Senna documentary (great documentary btw) and the fact that I bought a Logitech G27 last year and need to validate my purchase, lol. I guess my lack of knowledge didn't make this as painful compared to those of you in the know. But hey, you're just offering constructive criticism right?

The part where Drew kinda asks "how do people do this on manual?" I used to be one of those people but after buying the g27 I forced myself to use manual and its a lot of fun once you get used to it.

Vinny, buy a racing wheel!!!!

fucking. epic.

Not too bad on the knowledge of F1, Drew. And Vinny made up in humor what he lacked in knowledge. I love me a good Drew QL.

Having played F1 2010 and having "some" F1 knowledge I can fully appreciate Drew going in cold on this game and trying his best to learn and explain. The games just don't explain/tutorialize anything and expect you to know every advanced detail. Thumbs up to Drew, he didn't have to do this but did it anyway.

I agree, the game definitely expects you to be a fan and have a bunch of F1 knowledge coming into it. Also I'm glad to see them do this quicklook even if their F1 knowledge leaves something to be desired. It was still useful to get a look at the game and hearing them completely bewildered by the world of F1 had me laughing.

Once again thanks Drew and Vinny, hope you guys continue to branch out more with quicklooks in the future!

I found I was interested in F1 as a kid just because the cars looked like spaceships, but the closest I ever got to simulating that was Super Monaco GP, which is totally arcadey but probably my single favorite racing game (of the ones I've played). I imagine this is hard to compare to that, but consider this my lobbying for someone trying SM GP at some point in the future, even though I probably won't be allowed to watch it. Also:

Mind your Ps and Qs and your Rs will follow, apparently.

And:

the F10 goes at LIGHT SPEED.

Overtaking is too hard to comprehend so it must be known as passing. lol

It's a game for people who already watch the sport. The new mechanics would not be new to them.

Man, you guys let Vinny troll you pretty hard. He was obviously saying crazy stuff to mess with any F1 folks out there.

The weirdest part to me about F1 compared to NASCAR is the fact that the cars are so different. Seems like an unfair advantage to whomever can buy the fastest car.
