I love both scientific and non-scientific looks at fighting games!

This is one of those games that looks like a fake video game

Speaking of single-player content, there IS a survival mode accessible from the training mode, which is stupid, but at least it's there

This game is too expensive for what it offers, considering other current gen fighting games like FighterZ, Injustice 2 and Tekken 7 pack so much more content than this one. This is only worth buying on a steep discount.

So is there no physical copy of this game or is it for download only on PSN?

I´m kinda into this. I can´t justify picking up even the cheaper version right now, though.

I wish they showed off a few more characters but this does look pretty fun. I agree that it needs more content, arcade or some sort of story mode would help people new to it like me

Skullomania, or Skullmageddon?

So, a few important facts behind this game:

1. It started out as a joke, but was then actually started to be worked at for real when ARIKA noticed interest.

2. ARIKA has close to no budged, so the team took money out of their own pocket to make this simply out of passion.

3. The team is only 5 people. That's localization, graphics, sounds... everything. As such, and due to a minimal budget, the starting product is bare-boned. They simply cannot afford to make more content if it doesn't sell well. - So, put shortly. If this fails, ARIKA highly likely dies.

4. For this reason, a few Gougi decks are locked off together with one character. - Pay-to-win? No. Absolutely not. The different gougis do not settle how a match ends at all. There also are multiple decks which have gougis from those locked out, so you still have access to them even through the $40 version.

Speaking of:

5. The reason why there are two versions is so that those who want to support ARIKA more, can do so by getting the $60 version which includes more Gougi decks and Hokuto (character) instead of the $40 version, and if you want to help more, you can buy color palettes for the characters in the DLC store.

Gameplay wise I can say that it is the most fun fighter I have ever played. And I have played A LOT of fighters in my life. Sure, it is a bare-boned product, but what matters is the gameplay, and the gameplay and online netcode is stellar. Even on 2 bars of 5, the game feels totally playable. ARIKA put their money where they knew we'd want it. - If it goes well, they will add a lot more content to the game, including at least 2 more characters and highly likely an Arcade Mode. - So, it isn't a matter of "we won't make more content", it is "we can't afford to make more content, because we'll be closed down."

That first stage they play in looks straight up like Washington Heights/Inwood in NYC. Just gotta replace the American flags with Dominican ones and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference from real life.

The game looks nice, I love the art style, but...it's just hard for me to get into fighting games, considering how much I suck at them.
