Quick Look: God of War: Origins Collection

Developers, pay attention. Some simple rain effects are all you need to make your game go from "jarring," "jagged" and "low detail" to "this looks shockingly good."

I, for one, adore Chains of Olympus's art direction. It did its own thing, while Ghost of Sparta looks more like a "lite" version of numbered God of War games, now with bonus excessive light bloom.

How is Brad so bad at and clueless about games.

loved both of these games on the psp, ghost of sparta is definitively the better of the two. 

Kratos is an irredeemable asshole. It worst thing about the God of War series is that he's the only monster in Ancient Greece you don't get to brutally kill.

The only time I notice these things is when people are bitching in the comments. I watched and didn't notice any poor playing by Brad. Just watch the video and fuck up. Who gives a shit? If you really feel the need to analyze his play style every time Brad plays a game, then seek help.

The characterization, art direction and story arc in the first God of War is one of my favorites in games. I felt the rest of them had strong art and visceral action, but I wasn't endeared to the direction they took with Kratos and his enemies in the subsequent iterations. For crazy people like me, it's to the credit of the series that the first one was a self contained story.

Played these already, now I can play them again for trophies! YAY!

These sorts of "HD" collections basically tell me "don't bother buying our handheld, anything worth a damn will appear in a console collection later".

I'm excited to watch the game directors talk.  

I held off on the PSP versions because I had a pretty good feeling that something like this would come out.

Gah! All these great affordable HD remasters! Combined with all these great new releases on the way! Stop it, games!

None of the God of War games had camera control, regardless of the platform it was initially released on

Man I loved these games. They were easily some of the best on the PSP

Ryan, it's kind of insulting how you say filthy nasty evil Persians. I mean, I understand you're talking about them in the context of the game, where they are evil, and invading, but it's not like Persian people are fictional, or no longer exist... So you know...

Yes thats right GB! They are totally designed for PSP and not having camera control. Thats why GoW 1,2 and 3 also have no cameracontrol.... The dodgeroll on right stick has always been the core mechanic of GoW and what makes it so much better than all other games of this style.

These GoW games look good on the PS3 which is awesome because I'm a fan of the games but not of handhelds.

Ugh. I  have no idea why the collections don't let you kick out to the "Collection menu", and will only let you go as far as the individual games' main menus. Sly Collection did that too. It's no deal-breaker, but it's an annoyance for sure. Haven't seen the Team Ico Collection QL yet; I'm hopeful that that one does things right (it has been in development for quite awhile)

Ryan forgets that the first two God of Wars had no camera control either, the RS is used to roll in them too.

Looks good. I think I could go for some more God of War action.

Chains of Olympus is really good but it is maybe 5 hrs. I bought Ghost of Sparta off PSN when it came out but I'm only an hour in, I should get back to that. I hear Ghost of Sparta is more in the 7-8 hr range, which means together they are maybe the length of the first God of War, but they are really solid games and this collection seems worth buying if you haven't played these on PSP.

I always enjoy the Brad/Vinny and Brad? Patirck ql's to be honest.

These were great games for the PSP: still got them, and will definitely buy this collection for the PS3. 
 
As for Kratos, they made an effort to layer the character with redemptive features. But yeah, he was never really meant to be a likeable, cute and fuzzy character. No, he is meant to be a bastard and a bad ass.
 
Must say, I like the PSP ones better than GOWIII.

Wow, the difference between those two games graphically is kind of amazing considering they're on the same hardware.  That's some hardcore emulation going on there.

I had my fill of God of War once I finished the 1st one.

if your curious most of his rage issues comes from being tricked into murdering his family by the god of war. hence the first game and anger at gods betraying him all the time :D

zeus betraying him when he was the god of war himself was the last straw and then went on his murderpage

GOW3 has no camera control either. Right stick has always been dodge. Always.

In a world before the Space Marine demo, this looked pretty cool. Now it looks sadly short of jetpacks, chainswords and power axes.

I like Ryan's attitude towards the God of War franchise. I think the games would be much improved with his running commentary.
