Quick Look: Pokémon Black

This just looks like the first Pokemon game, but in color and 3D. Aren't they ever going to make a new Pokemon game?

I wasn't planning to watch it, but...

The story is actually pretty good. Definitely better than any other Pokemon game. They also turn a lot of the staples of the series on it's head (3 rivals that do more than just fight, and the Gym Badges are pretty secondary to what's going on later in the game.) 
 
I just find it funny that Pokemon is still largely same, even after all these years, and I still get pumped about the little details they're changing in each generation.

I didnt care much about this version until this quicklook, I KEEP FALLING IN THEIR TRAP! Sadly i think im going to stop at best buy today :(

It's not true. Catching is determined by an algorithm based on a pokemons inherent catch rate (rarer pokemon have a much lower number), the current health of the pokemon, status effects (most provide a 1.5x multiplier, but sleep provides 2x) and a multiplier based on the ball (normal ball is 1x, dusk ball is 4x etc).  I always held down A as a kid as well. There were various methods, none of them true.     "

POKEMONNNN! Although I haven't played most of the recent entries, I've been loving this one so far. Maybe that's because, given my several year absence from the franchise, all of the incremental improvements have actually added up to something significant. Still a great game, though

I'm liking the changes I'm seeing in this, but one issue that should really be adressed is for you to be able to see what a move does without going into the "Pokemon" menu during battle. There's enough space on the bottom screen for them to be able to add a "Move info" button somewhere there. 
 
Anyhow, looking forward to skipping this and just playing Gray when it's out.

The intensity in this quick-look was so fucking awesome. 

Ryan and Vinny Pokemon Endurance Run. One can dream.

Also like others, surprised about how deep the story is on this. That and I'd also hate living in this world as Ryan pointed out about just going out to get milk & everyone challenges you.

How can you have a go at Nintendo's proclivity for incremental improvements?

This seems borderline absurd to me. And I've got no qualms in revealing that the only thing I have against this game is the illimitable hours it will invariably suck out of my life when i finally cave and buy it.

I ask myself the same question about the call of duty franchise everyday.   I guess it's a matter of what you like, i like pokemon for the collecting aspect, it's a game i can sink 10 minutes into a day or 10 hours. "

I've bought one of nearly every generation since I bought Blue way back, and this is the first generation to really suck me in. They know how to design an addictive game.  That little click is so god damn satisfying, when you are catching the pokemon. "
