Too late for it now, but if you close the doors behind you as you run through them it forces him into search mode. You kept leaving all the doors open so he would just walk right to where you thought he lost you.

Looks really outstanding (and to be honest, not at all like a Resident Evil game, new or oldschool). That said, I don't like games with enemies constantly stalking you and you can't do shit about it. That looked more annoying than scary, like you're trying to play the video game but that fucker won't let you.

Wait, why is the VR option only available on PS4 and not on pc? Is it something they plan to add to it in a patch or something, or is RE7 never going to be VR capable for pc? Seems pretty crazy to me. I would imagine RE7 would sell even better if the pc version had VR, considering there aren't really any fully fledged video games to play in VR and mostly just proof-of-concept little games or sandbox type stuff.

I would imagine Sony provided funding for the development costs of making the game VR compatible, thus granting them an exclusivity period.

I doubt they would have pursued VR compatibility in the first place without some kind of external funding. The VR install base isn't exactly flourishing. The cost of development would likely outweigh the return they'd receive.

He's not constantly stalking you. The entire portion where Jack stalks you is in this quick look, Dan makes it way more of a problem than it really is. He stays in that half of the house and he's only there from when you enter that bathroom until you trigger the scene in the basement. The majority of the game you're free to roam around as you like.

This game DOES NOT run any better on a PS4 Pro than a PS4. Both versions are locked at 60fps and it has to be for VR. The only difference is resolution. Performance is the same on both consoles otherwise.

I must recommend for anyone looking to buy this that hasn't already started playing on PC, make sure you adhere to the brightness check instructions at the beginning of the game and make sure to swap Color Space in options to be BT.709. The game is so good atmospherically at night with the lights off and only the game screen giving off any light in the room. Then again, that's how you should play any horror game xD

I think this quick look actually made me MORE conflicted. I feel like I could get into and really enjoy the gameplay loop, but that part in the middle where he can't do anything because of a guy stalking him around that it maybe does no good to kill was bad. If there's more like that in the game.....

@benderunit22: I've played about 4 hours into the game and have beaten the fight that happens at the end of the QL so I have lots of experience with the "Daddy" portion of the game. From what I could tell he stalks mainly a section of the house and stays within that zone. Without giving it away it seems like the portion of the game you see is broken up into the "sneaky stalker zone" and the "action zone". Because of that it never was annoying and was usually a thrill and quite terrifying when jack would pop out of nowhere as your gathering items.

I should clarify. When Vinny said it might run inferior I thought the framerate would be shite. But apparently that's not the case. It's no surprise that the game might look slightly better on a Pro but as long as RE7 also runs fine on base PS4 then it's fine.

The way Vinny talked about it it sounded like it would be a slideshow on base PS4. That's what was I was referring to when calling it an inferior version.

Hey I feel kinda bad but I'm compelled to write just how bad this is.

The lighting is FAR too bright for a 'scary' game. The dialogue is really, really bad. It's just lazy / lame / silly? The jump scares are poorly done and the poor controls / movement speed / rotation speed just feels so incredibly dated.

I don't know if this a HDR capturing fault or the game really is this bright? Perhaps Dan is bad at demoing a game he's already finished (and I <3 Dan, please note!) but something about this entire quicklook is bad. I wouldn't even consider playing this game :/

Second note: I'm a huge pussy with scary stuff and scare easily, PT is about 150 million times better than this.

EDIT: Sorry I forgot I'd already critiqued this, but I was really drunk last night, apologies.

Loving this game so far, but I can't play it in more than 2 hour chunks. It's soooo intense.

That being said, I wish they hadn't shown the basement scenes. I think that was a really cool surprise in this game that is more effective if the player doesn't know it's coming.

They usually crank the brightness up on QL's, better to err on the side of too bright I guess when it comes to Internet video production.

I'm playing this on PC with ReShade (post FX injector) and the "HDR" and "AdaptiveSharpen" modules on. It takes some minutes to read up on how to do, but if you're playing on PC I highly recommend trying Reshade to get the game looking great. This game especially needs a sharpen feature in it's graphics settings.

I also love how the block in this game is basically just your character holding his hands up as I would when something scary comes on screen. I just go around hiding behind my hands

Yeesh, this looked so janky and shitty. Things like when Dan was shooting at the gooey thing up close and the scaling of his gun to the monster kept screwing up looked terrible. This is Darkest of Days levels of lame.

I'll also never understand why crappy controls are supposed to make a game more exciting. You might as well strap the character in a broken wheelchair or something if you're going to handle like a tank. At least then getting agitated when it's hard to escape makes some sense. I get they're going for a certain pacing, but it just looks like your dude is casually walking around while shit beasts pursue you. There are way too many "it's a video game" conceits for me to ever get into this game.

Controls are actually fine. It honestly feels like it plays as well as you're skilled in FPSs in general. It's a must have if you've been dying to get back to old RE1~ goodness.
