Quick Look: Saints Row: The Third: Gangstas In Space

I enjoyed this DLC, it was very short, but it was fun. I just wish they (spoilers)... gave your the guns you used at the end.

It was more enjoyable than the Genki stuff.

If you have it for the PC, you can get the Gentlemen of Steelport mod pack, which adds mission replay for everything as well as other great things that should have been in the game.

The director is the voice actor for Brucie from GTA, right? I love the DLC but being invincible is not the best way to play it. I'm gonna start a new game.

I also never put on Killbane's mask; after that was my reward I just redid the mission and got the apoca-fist instead..which might still be the better reward but hmm.

People give Brad shit because when he dies he blames the game for his failures, but in actuality, Ryan has noticeably the lowest skill level at most games he Quick Looks, while paradoxically assuming he fully understands how the game works thus ignoring most advice/suggestions from his QL co-pilots.

My point is, if anyone can find a way to somehow die despite being immune to most types of damage, it's Ryan.

I'd so fucking watch this movie.

I have to say, I am fucking confused as hell why Ryan thinks this is even an OK product. After how much all of the GB guys made clear that they are TIRED of rail shooter sequences, HALF OF THIS DLC IS THAT. Not only that, but it should be way shorter. There's a bunch of shooting a really boring gun at a total of what, two, three types of enemies? And there are large gaps between dialogue bits. It should just be one continuous dialogue bit with the characters constantly going back and forth (and no, the three "nice shot" and "I'm a dick director" samples don't count), escaping the military, shooting down a couple aliens, and hitting the ramp. Keep that pace up. Instead it takes you for goddamn ever to get through a pretty boring bit of gameplay with some kinda funny (if it's to your taste/you can stand a lot of really really lazy fake "bad acting" and a really dickish guy constantly either whining or screaming) bit scattered through it. This DLC shows the biggest issue that the CORE game had. The pacing is god awful. There is way too much gameplay, way too much pregnant pausing. You know the part where you drop from a plane in a tank? It was awesome for the first maybe 20% of that and then it was just like :oh, more guys, gunna shoot em. Oh, more guys, gunna shoot em. Oh, more guys, gunna shoot em. They need to keep this shit moving. Don't have the typical talk for about 40 seconds, then shoot fro 3, rinse, repeate. Get rid of those three minute chunks, compress it all, and make it actually feel intense and fast and like it's constantly going off. Like in the core game, way too much of this DLC just drags onnnnnn and onnnnnnn and onnnnn. There is some funny stuff, yeah. But generally I think it's a pretty particular kind of comedy, and it's not ever really good enough to make you forget that you are either going through the same city you've driven through for a good 20 hours already, and then going through combat scenarios fighting two different types of aliens, in environments that use up all their assets within any 10 foot cube of space. And it's not particularly interesting to begin with.

I don't mind people liking this DLC. I know the humor wasn't really for me. But at the same time, it's MAD QUICK and has VERY little content. Seems like all the voices are pretty much identical, with a few slight word choice changes, and again, the dialogue is rationed out over lengthy and incredibly simple often one dimensional gameplay sequences.

But so much of this DLC has issues that the guys have complained about in other games. Too much rail shooting (at least make it something other than a hit scan chain gun, so I have to be at least somewhat engaged to be effective, not just spamming my mouse thumb button to drop grenades and constant dumping into guys and then being bored with the over heat), really poor pacing, and not a lot of ACTUALLY crazy shit. Nothing in this DLC matches the Mars ending, the bank robbery opening, the plane apeshit craziness, the Tron world. OR really even comes any where NEAR as nuts as that.

I wish they had just gone off of the Mars ending, which was by far my favorite part of the core game (other than the boss fight), had a WONDERFUL "thing", was unique from the rest of the game but still felt like it fit the "feel" of the rest of the game. It had much better (read: faster) pacing and the dialogue was thick and had little space between any choice morsel. This just feels super quick and lazy with really basic gameplay stuff and not much more impressive scope to the "plot" which is pretty poor at best.

Maybe I'm just grouchy, but I really just don't understand why this is so ok with these guys. It's way too much for what it is, and I'm frankly a bit pissed that I payed for the season pass, because Ghenki was mad stupid (though in ways, more interesting to me, because it was at least batshit about what it did) and boring and in a lot of ways just not good. This felt lazy and rushed just like Ghenki, wasn't any longer, etc etc. I don't get it.

That quick look was awesome and hilarious. I'm really tempted to buy the game and also get this DLC.
