I love how Patrick gets interrupted talking about how "it takes you out of the experience" by shitting his pants.

You know what horror game is procedurally generated and still maintains the spooks. SCP containment breach. It is also free.

I would never claim to be a tough guy who doesnt get scared as i get terrified by most horror games but got to be honest something about this game that I dont find anything scary in the slightest, no tension.

I couldn't believe Patrick actually showed the fast forwarding. That was awesome. Really, that was the best part of the QL. I was interested in Daylight but after seeing this I'll save my money.

I've probably watched every QL on the site and this is the first time where I feel like absolutely jack shit happened the entire time. If this game is 3 hours long for a normal playthrough... WHAT THE FUCK ACTUALLY HAPPENS DURING THAT 3 HOURS!?

I mean people were shitting on Ground Zeroes a ton recently but at least there is something to do in the game...

edit: In hindsight, there is an awful lot of glowstick management in Daylight.. so that is a thing I guess?

Kinda funny that they have that "the room's on fire and there's a monster walking towards me" encounter in there, especially since it doesn't look as good as it did in F.E.A.R 9 years ago (skip to 0:46 for the scene). And, hey, F.E.A.R. managed to be pretty tense even when set in mostly lit environments, some even outdoors during daytime, even though it certainly had the obligatory creepy hospital/school/asylum stuff too:

I keep dissapointing myself by confusing this game's title with Dying Light.

Hey @patrickklepek have you played many silent hill games? I still think they're the scariest games made to date. I'm playing through the first one because I missed it and went straight to the second game and christ is it scary even though it looks pretty dated they really know how to scare the fuck out of you even with odd looking polygons. I would suggest the 4th one if you haven't played it because it's just plain weird considering you're locked in a room through the game. Also they all look sort of amazing on their respective platforms, Silent Hill 3 probably being the best looking PS2 game I've ever played.

Oh and they all totally hold up and please don't go near the HD collection. Downpour is a pretty good none team silent game.

I've played them all to varying degrees, though I've only finished one, two, Shattered Memories, Homecoming, and Downpour.

Maybe Daylight is a bad example, but I think I realized why I don't care for most horror games - the mechanics aren't that interesting, and the atmosphere being really the main draw. This game looks so fucking tedious and boring.

There's really only a few games in the genre I have liked, mainly a subset of the Silent Hill series (2,3, Shattered Memories) and Lone Survivor off the top of my head. I think their stories/puzzles/mechanics were strong enough to pull me in and keep me engaged.

I dunno, seems super empty and boring. Amnesia was pretty empty, but far from boring. Not sure what the trick is, but maybe its the fact that this seems to be set in an abandoned school or hospital? Everything is gray is boring? While in Amnesia things were pretty colorful and frightful.

Gonna pass on this... seems like Silent Hill 1 with better graphics... maybe would be an amazing experience in 1997.

Hope Anthony Gaegos wont lose his job after this launches...

I'm not about to say a collect-athon is the greatest thing ever but it's easier here than it may seem. You have to use the glowsticks to see where the items are hidden. They show up with that weird pattern on them. Like the hint text at the bottom of the screen said "use glowsticks to find clues".

SCP also benefits more from the randomness as well, as elements of it are 'rogue-like' (please don't yell at me for using that word), more than anything else, due to all of the different inventory items you can have and how those items can interact with all the different SCPs.

Suddenly it has become okay to just throw jump scares in a randomised maze and call it a day. No actual subtle plot, no character arcs, just jump scares. Hey, at least it'll get the people laughing on Twitch and Youtube, that counts, right? (Sorry that was a bit cynical)

For comparisons, I found the most unsettling thing in Amnesia to be the stuff you find out that the protagonist did just in order to keep himself from being caught by the dark force chasing him.

Yeah... Amnesia and sequel are actually trying to tell stories in which the story holds part of the horror. The actually ask for some thought from the player. This is like Pewdiepie commissioned a game specifically for Let's Play videos to entertain... whoever the millions of people who watch him are. And to think I almost bought into this game. Damn shame, effective horror games continue to be few and far between.

This game seems like someone took every single horror cliche out there, threw in the "thrilling and not at all tedious" gameplay of Slender and then threw them together in some sort of crappy, procedurally generated blender.

@patrickklepek: Please rectify this! You're missing out on some great games although it will ruin other horror games because they really don't make em like they used to. 2, 3 and 4 are the best in class.

I don't know if it's the way Scoops captured the video or maybe it's the game itself but this sure is an ugly game. Doesn't really show off anything of what UE4 could theoretically do.

Get out.

Anyway, game looks like ass and the loading times are horrible. That doesn't bode well for UE4 and I think that's all I can take away from this.

Maybe they made the loading times so bad just to give people time to run ads in between games. Ugh.

@patrickklepek In case no one has informed you yet, I'm pretty sure that if you have a glowstick out then the cabinets and such that you can interact with have all the glowing runes on them. Game doesn't make that super clear ever, but the text at the beginning saying to use the glowsticks to find clues I think is trying to tell you that the glowsticks literally highlight the clues. Doesn't exactly fix the core problem of the game, but it should at least make it a bit less tedious.

When I'm creeped out by a dark hallway I do the sensible thing instead of running blindly down it, scared of the invisible boogeyman coming to get me.

I pull out my cell phone and use it as a flashlight to scare him off.

now i believe that glow-stick is supposed to represent a UV light source the EWW part of that is that only Seamen fluoresces naturally under UV light. So draw you own conclusions

That's a good game.

It's a joke... Patrick has trouble finding the last remnant in each stage because this game is just a maze with random spooky sounds thrown in.

I don't get why they made the map an in-world object on the phone but then tracked everything else on a normal hud. It's not like you ever have to make a choice between having the map out or something else. It just seems weird.

I don't really blame Patrick for this, but:

Use glowsticks to find clues.

The problem is that he cracked his glowstick before entering the room that is intended to train the player what to do. That first room with the desk in it off the entry way - the idea is that you go in there without a glowstick lit, get prompted to light it, and then see the "pickup is here!" highlightin appear on it. Having entered the room with the stick already lit, I'm sure Patrick didn't make the connection that the glowstick is what caused the desk to be highlighted.

I'm not sure why it was necessary to make this game with the new Unreal Engine. Something like Unity would probably be more than enough for what this game is trying to achieve. Unless phat glowstick tech is UE4's premiere feature or something.
