The swapping between third and first-person aiming cracked me up. I imagine the cameraman going "no dude just me take care of this" and raises his own gun which happens to be the same as the player's. The movement looks goofy as all hell; no view bob or anything, you just glide.

@kubqo: I would have been kind of clever if the game was called 'Umbrella Corpse', as a play on 'corps'.

Janky Japanese games with great art and suspect playability were my jam back in the PS1/PS2 heyday, so I was actually into this at least aesthetically. Seeing it in motion, the shine does come off though.

I feel like this could be pretty fun for those willing to put some time into it, but man not for thirty bones.

They let business priorities drive all their creatives away. Now there's just a skeleton team of creatives left, They pushed re-releases constantly, the tight release schedule meant they were comfortable releasing less and less content and the content got obsolete faster (Marvel Vs Capcom 3 vs Ultimate). Old game series died or became mobile games (Breath of Fire) and now, all they got is business, there's no one left to fight for the game or to fight for the players (except maybe Ono and they've already put him in the hospital once from overwork).

The time for intervention came and went. Get your own self to a happy place, follow creators which took inspiration from early capcom and sadly see off the franchises that are stuck in their possession.

Sticking around is only going to be painful. Even Activision recognizes that when you have talent you do everything you need to keep it.

Being the evil Umbrella Corp Swat team that goes in and fucks everything up is cool in concept, but this is a nightmare.

I imagine an xcom-like game where you dispatch umbrella security to coverup incidents and eliminate rivals.

Capcom is severely talented game makers working under severely untalented executives.

How can this still look and control like a japanese company's first time making a shooter during the early days of PS3 Gen? The awkward movement paired with the rigid crosshair. We've come so far with so many games they could imitate control-wise.

Imagine having access to an IP like Resident Evil and all of the glorious possibilities. Nearly every one who grew up with the game (what a strange thought to think of, for instance I played original Resident Evil on PSX back in the mid 90s as a teen) has their perfect idea for a Resident Evil game, yet an entire corporation where there has been dozens of years now to gather a team to make the perfect game and this is what we are getting.

Also, Resident Evil 7 - VR or not the idea that is intended for VR is so frustrating to me. I am blind in one eye and even depth of field in games makes me nauseous so I am never going to get to truly experience VR. I don't know what they were thinking and I'm sure no one will say this is a sign of the Resident Evil series to come but what a crying shame this turned out to be.

This screamed Unity engine to me and "hastily cobbled together" in the same sentence.

My perfect Resident Evil game would basically be look at what they are doing with God Of War and make characters meaningful that you don't want to die because you will be sad if that happened. I can't think of many games where I care about the NPCs who follow me around, Sure I will rescue them every now and then but it is only because I am forced to. I think Resident Evil could do a good job of making you care about your people and go back to a frightening survival horror game, but not in first person at FOV 70 with teleporting around like a spastic monkey.

I feel bad for Capcom. I'm sure you attribute *some* of this failure to Overwatch being a thing, but man... all that money wasted developing a game that has no future whatsoever. Maybe Konami was right. Stop spending cash$ on video games and do something else?

This game was a complete waste of time. The Mercenary modes in the AAA Resident Evil games are better than Umbrella Corps and they are extra modes after the main game. And the fact they were trying to promote this as esports, show how confused Capcom is about a lot of things these days.

This game actually makes me mad. Everyone knew this game would be terrible literally the day they announced it. Between then and now, they made no real effort to change the outcome, either by cancelling it or revamping the game. They also charged $30 for the game and did zero marketing, absolutely guaranteeing its failure and probably taking a loss on the project. Why in the hell did they decide to make the game not F2P? It's not like they couldn't just copy/paste some other F2P shooter's gameplay and formula.

It's just so dumb. It wasted Capcom's time and money and it seems like it was made to provide more ammunition for those fans to rail against any new direction they decide to take the franchise if it's not archaic early 3D PS1 gameplay.

This game is garbage? Really?? Sure never saw that coming!

@zleunamme: I thought exactly the same thing when Dan started the first "Experiment". It's weird how often you can tell a Japanese game just by the font they use.

Also, just generally. I'm amazed that they didn't just put some kind of multiplayer horde mode in this game? I always thought this was going to be super mediocre, but at least with a horde mode it's mindless crap you could listen to a podcast and play, rather than just a boring multiplayer game that you also have to pay attention to.

Definitely worse than Evolve was. At least that was a genuine game, with new ideas. The forced esports marketing killed it. This game is just a waste of space.

Tim Turi would have cobbled together a better Resident Evil game with a paper clip and a stick of gum than this mess. Nobody was thrilled when it was first announced and it should be no surprise that the end product is this. I agree with Dan that I really want Resident Evil to be great again. The Revelation games are okay and I enjoyed the HD Remastered re-releases. I still remember the slogfest that was RE6. It is disappointing that Capcom has been putting out cash grabs lately.

On a side note, I wish that Capcom would go back to the Onimusha series. Demon Siege and Dawn of Dreams were fun gaming experiences for me during the PS2 era. I'm surprised that it has not gone to next gen consoles after 2006. An Onimusha revival is long overdue.

English...oh yes....very very weird...but then it is a combination of several different languages that don't really go together. I mean it is Germanic in many words and sounds (except when it isn't like in corp) but has French/Latin grammar (no verbs at the end like in German).

To make it even weirder the English word corp is short for corporation is pronounced corp or a tion. So I have heard English speakers (incorrectly) pronounce it the way you were expecting.
