Voicemail Dump Truck RPG Elements with Jeff and Ben

This week we take calls on RPGs, falling in love, and we only spend a little bit of time on the pee tape.

If you think the GIant Bombcast spends too much time talking about Not Video Games, you're going to hate this thing.

@flstyle: Isn't that Fallout 4 or something?

Then again I guess all video games are Westworld to some extent.

I played through Shadow of War recently, I think that had some non-verbal cues in the captions.

The one video autoplay feature I don't care for is twitch. They autoplay some recommended stream when they serve up the main page.

Diablo is a roguelike inspired by Angband and even started out turn-based in development. Unhinging the action, for "action" in arpg, was the big breakthrough for them. You can google 'diablo evolution' for some expansive screenshot galleries of the early stuff.

When i first read reviews about Diablo, it was placed in the 'hack & slash' genre.

I feel like sports games were pretty early on the RPG train. Especially in soccer where transfers are very key to the sports, and you want to be able to buy the best players for your team. There was a real sense of progression happening as you gained access to those players that had better stats. Training to make players increase their stats was also a natural fit.

Battlerite is not a moba btw. You're just pitting characters with multiple skills against eachother to kill eachother. There are no lanes, no towers and no bases. Funnily enough, they always had a shrinking circle in their game :)

I know revolvers are probably outclassed in the practicality department compared to modern weapons, but there's something really cool about a character who uses one in games, movies, or TV. Gives them an air of badassness, I think.

Filed Under: Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim

Top contributors to this wiki

As an aside.

Majesty is a good game for a couple hours until you realize it's somewhere between progress quest and sim ant in terms of meaningful player input. It's a good way to trick people who like rpgs into playing real time strategy games, and came out about the time when classic RPGs like Warlords and "Might and Magic" were coming out with strategy versions of their games. I think Paradox owns the license, so it does occasionally get bundled with other things or goes on seasonal sales.

@azuregale: There are few legitimate reasons to prefer revolvers over semi-automatic pistols: revolvers - the arguably the most crucial being that, in case of a misfire, you can generally just cycle to the next round in the cylinder and continue firing. In a semi-auto pistol, a misfire or jam requires the user to manually fix the problem.

Also, revolvers can generally house larger cartridges than semi-autos, since they're not constrained by magazine size. This is sometimes irrelevant, but can be a significant factor when dealing with large, wild animals or (in fantasy/sci-fi) when dealing with inhuman or superhuman foes.
