It's tough watching Brad not understanding a basic mechanic of deckbuilding games, which is that your entire hand is discarded every turn. I'm not sure how he got through 2 runs without realizing that not using a card doesn't save it. He keeps saying, "I don't want to use this now, I'll use it later" as if the card is going to stay in his hand. Then he sees it discarded, and he still doesn't get it.

He's also not understanding that Power cards give you a buff for the whole battle, but that isn't communicated well in the game, so I can forgive him for that.

@erlog: I've never heard Hearthstone or Magic referred to as a deck building game by video gamers. You got the terminology wrong.

Finally finished watching this and thanks for the really great video you two. It was very fun to watch and Brad seemed to be into the game so much it actually caused me to get back to it. I've been playing Magic since 1994 so I wanted to see how I would fare since Brad had done pretty good and I haven't played it since early access and mostly forgot about it.

I'm about halfway through the city on my first attempt but I'm probably going to die in a fight or two at this point. I keep getting hands full of debuffs and no way to deal with them and fighting things that do dmg when I hit them and my run is tainted by several cards that duplicate themselves when they go to graveyard so I end up with like 23 cards in my draw and 20 in my discard. From what I understand, this is not efficient at all.

Yup, this is just like any CCG - luck of the draw. Oh there is some skill, don't get me wrong. Some people can't see "the heart of the cards" (a coin I phrased when I used to play Magic) and miss out on structure of ruling and errata and how the stack affects things, so this is a good introduction to how Magic is structured as well besides having to accumulate mana whereas in this you have a limited supply of mana.

It would be so cool to see several Giant Bomb people playing Magic on stream together - Jan & Rorie hook it up!!

@swisslion: That was helpful, thanks.

I'm getting this game because of the quicklook so thanks also to Brad and Jan because without this video I probably never would have known about it. It seems awesome!

Just picked this game up after watching some vids, hope Brad keeps at it. Glad to hear he likes it but dang you can tell he's never played a card game before. Thanks for being there Jan, hope to see you a part of more quick looks.
