Very true Martin while he wrote his books was standing on the shoulder of giants. He is a giant on top of other giants, who in their turn stood on other giants. What is amazing is that other people growing up on George R.R. Martin's books will write their own books too.

While much more unidealized and grounded , the novels of Bernard Cornwell (The Last Kingdom series) are great too.

Ya'll REALLY doubling down on revealing that absolute-last-minute-end-game spoiler of Hellblade sure don't sit well with me.

That mechanic works perfectly fine until you learn about it. And that reveal, in the story, is supposed to be a powerful moment as you learn that you, like Senua, have been deceived all this time in regard of what power the darkness holds over you. It's something she had drilled into her since childhood, the notion that she is broken and that if she does not do the gods' bidding, then she will be ruined like her mother. It's a thing of the mind, of perception and what you're afraid of, that's the ENTIRE point.

There's a reason it's a lie, rather than a "fake game mechanic".

I'm okay with the occasional spoiler in my beastcast, but man, Dan tossed this HUGE thing out of nowhere last week after hearing of it secondhand, and now we're complaining about the reveal when none of ya'll have even seen it? I really don't want to be that guy, but just.. Come on. That ain't any kind of fun.

I guess Game of Thrones is better if you're into pointless and obligatory nudity, sex scenes, rape, incest, and child killing.

I mean, that's one way to be pointlessly negative about an emmy-award-winning series. Here's an example of that particular brand of being dismissive:

"I guess the Godfather is better if you're into horse-heads being in bed and murder." Sure, those are parts of that movie but are most definitely NOT the main part of the movie. You can pick out anything from movies and TV and portray it negatively. It's so much easier to just like things.

Maybe at least wait until the dude finishes the books before wrongly thinking game of thrones is even close to lord of the rings. That was rough.
