It's just doing the thing Video bombcasts now do where if you have premium, by default it shows you no-ads. You can still go to the podcast page if you want Small Business.

Surprise, surprise, Dan thinks it's lame that Batman doesn't kill people. Dan I don't tell you how pro-wrestling should work, so I'm gonna reject any opinions you have on comic books.

"MarioWare" would be terrible because Mario's friends are all dorks. Wario's friends he gets to design games for him are all a bunch of cracked out weirdos. You don't get nose picking and hot dog cars from Mario's crew. It's just Peach and Luigi designing sensible tic tac toe games.

I do actually think there is a lot of nostalgia for the PS1, but it`s from the Youtube community/content creators as opposed to the games press. While it seems like the vast majority of the gaming press grew up on either the NES or SNEs and therefore have heavy nostalgia for that period and those franchises a lot of Youtubers grew up with the N64/PS1 and have nostalgia for those games.

As someone who did not grow up with the NES I will also say that from my perspective at least I think people are exaggerating heavily when they talk about how well those games have aged. While there are some standouts a lot of the games I have seen and played from that period have aged very poorly from both a graphical and gameplay perspective.

I'm a big blackjack player, and I fucking hate people who bitch about how other players play. If I ran a casino, these people would be thrown out on their ass along with the cheats and the drunks.

First of all, statistically speaking, it does not change the dealer's odds one bit whether or not someone hits - even the anchor. Sure, maybe on this hand I took the King that would've busted the dealer, and he got a 21 when he should've busted. It does happen. But other times, I might take away the dealer's winning card and cause him to go bust instead. Both scenarios are equally likely. So you'd think if you're going blame the unorthodox player next to you when you lose, you should also thank him when you win. But no, of course not; if you improve the dealer's hand you're an asshole, but if you bust the dealer you just got got lucky.

Second of all, I play blackjack to have fun, not to win money. Anyone who plays blackjack hoping to make a profit is a fool, plain and simple. So while the book shows you the statistically correct play, it doesn't tell you the most fun play. Like splitting tens, for instance. I know that financially it's a stupid thing to do. You've got a solid 20, don't throw it away, I get it. But I still like to split tens from time to time because it's so much goddamn fun. Yes I've lost plenty of hands I should've won, but I've also gotten numerous double-blackjacks that way, and it's the best thing in the world. But not with Play-by-the-book Grumpypants sitting next to me.

Sorry for the rant, but I really can't stand these people who bitch about how other people are playing at the blackjack table. Gambling is definitely a stupid thing to do financially, no question. But at least it's really fun. Take out the fun and what's the point?

I'd like to hear everyone's opinion of Red Dead if they played it again today. I wasn't blown away by it at release and I only recently completed it. It was good but game of the generation? Ehhhhh...

Tom from Michigan, if you are reading this, I was in a very similar situation as you in (mostly likely) the same area. I would say if you have the money, buying a house in certain areas of southeast Michigan is a great investment right now.

They are 100% correct that there is more to owning a house, but it is rewarding and in many cases much cheaper. Check out neighborhoods like Berkley, Ferndale, Clawson, and maybe even Hazel Park. My mortgage is half of the average rent, so if you are smart about saving you will have money when a big thing happens.

This is just my perspective. I don't think that the advice given was wrong, but things are different in every part of the country, so I figured I would give my more local opinion.

Best!

Grand Theft Auto IV is the best Rockstar game. Beast crew sleeping on how emotional the end of that game is and I think the writing is a lot more consistent.

And the part where you played it was a lot better IMO too

This will probably make me sound like one of those PCMR people, but I got kind of bothered when Abby said she didn't like playing games on PC with no explanation whatsoever.

Maybe its just that as humans we don't like change but PC is a great platform. Not saying it is superior to any other platform, but one worth paying attention to with lots of good games to offer.

Yeah, people love to give Yu Suzuki shit for Shenmue, but he was responsible for so many classic Sega arcade games in the 80s and 90s.

Is it me or did they discuss the exact same newsstories as the bombcast and gave the exact same answers? Even the same GTA IV anecdote!

Not that it matters, but it was funny to hear.

@nickhead: I agree with you 100%, and I even played it on release. There is a lot to like about it, but overall it's kind of simplistic and overly long, and I feel like it breaks storywise for me worse than most Rockstar games because they tried really hard to make this particular genocidal maniac a family man. I will say though, I did thoroughly enjoy the final act and epilogue, even if it took WAY too long to get there.

I suspect, judging by just the open world story thread in the forums, ours be unpopular opinions, mate.

I was surprised that the Read Dead take was so uniform. Is Jeff the only person on staff that didn't enjoy the controls in that game?

I dunno what Abby's reasons are, but as a person who has said the same in the past, I think it's hopeless to argue for the PC to someone that doesn't care about it as a gaming platform. Nobody's gonna change their taste, habit and preferences out of the blue. Or to put it another way, if I haven't used a mouse in a decade and hate playing games sitting at a desk, you're not gonna get me to play shooters on PC with a mouse and keyboard no matter how much more precise it is.

The constant praise for Red Dead Redemption in the gaming community just shows how little people expect from westerns. Like they've only seen Sergio Leone and Unforgiven (and Tarantino's last films I guess).

Before I got into westerns these last few years, I thought Red Dead Redemption was alright. Now? After watching John Ford, Nicholas Ray, Sam Peckinpah? Red Dead Redemption just sucks!

Every time people say the story in Red Dead Redemption is amazing, the only thing they are ever able to cite is the late title card at the very end of the story with Marston's son.

I think there’s not as much nostalgia for PS1 because it didn’t really have that many all time classics whereas virtually every notable N64 game is regarded as an all time classic.

That actually made me become more of an Abby fan because I agreed with her 100%. I've tried different games on the PC platform before and it's just not for me. I'm always going to be an Arcade, handheld, and console gamer.

I also had a pretty lackluster response to the RDR2 trailer, primarily because the main character featured didn't really seem very interesting to me. However, I know Rockstar tends to take the "rolling thunder" approach to marketing, slowing rolling out info at first and then building up more and more as the game gets closer to release. And I can't recall the last time they made a game I didn't enjoy or wasn't interested in - Manhunt 2 maybe? So I'm still pretty excited.

Alright, but you're comparing games to movies. Compare Red Dead Redemption to other western video games. Google "western video games" and you'll see how few and far between they are and how low quality most of them are.

I quite enjoyed that conversation around their reaction to the trailer, and I'm not sure if Dan quite got their point, but I'm glad they called him on it and had that interesting wee talk.
