Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is definitely better than Temple of Doom. They're both bad, but Temple was a lot more boring, just a slog to get through.

What does all the PC talk for Cyberpunk 2077 equate to in terms of PS4 hardware? Is that much higher than a regular PS4's capabilities, meaning I'll get a reduced experience again like Witcher 2? 'Cause I remember that being a game that supposed to look pretty good on a PC, but playing that on console it looked and ran like a Bioware game - sometimes worse. Just constant framerate issues and graphical hiccups.

@redhotchilimist: Those PC specs were pretty high-end, definitely higher than a PS4. Now, odds are there will be many improvements to runspeed by release in a couple years, but also I would probably expect a decent amount of downgrading from PC to consoles.

I think the main intent of running on current consumer hardware is that they aren't just targeting next-gen systems.

In Jurassic World they sort of explain that their dinosaurs aren't perfect reproductions because of all of the gene splicing. So don't worry about the giant raptors or lack of feathers, it's just too much frog DNA.

@vinny On the topic of closing out stores and fifty cent Skylanders, you, as a homeowner handyman, might be impressed by this one. I worked at a Sears as it was closing, and on our last day, we had a lot of window blinds left over. The liquidator just went fuck it, and dropped the price down to fifty cents (Canadian) a piece. Sears was an expensive store, these were hundred dollar sets - on for a couple quarters. I texted my landlady, and she sent over her super with his big truck and just cleaned house.

The liquidators know their business, and even as the business is shuttering up they'll try to pry loose another couple dollars on everything they sell. Still, though, you can get some crazy good deals - going out of business sales are always worth checking out.

Yup. I thought Crystal Skull was kinda lifeless and dull, but Temple of Doom is just bizarre in a bad way. Some of the 90's body gore stuff is fun to watch again for the practical effects but man, the pacing in that thing is rooooughh.

The crew is half-right about raptors. Velociraptors were quite small. The utahraptor is actually closer to what we see in the Jurassic Park series, although as far as I know they are referred to as "velociraptors" in the movies.

There were some things I strongly disliked about Jurassic World, but overall I thought it was far better than reviews made it seem.

And Abby is right. The Jeff Goldblum thing is weird. I don't get it.

Dan is a film major but did they never teach things like pulling themes from movies because all he can ever talk about critically is whether or not something was cool.

Naughty Dog told us we would only play as Joel in Last of Us but then we played a bit as Ellie so I'm not paying attention to Naughty Dog saying Ellie is the only playable character.

Since Dan keeps bringing up the talking raptor in Jurassic Park III, I would like to share what it was actually like: Grant thinking his sidekick (played by the actor who playex Castor Troy's brother in Face/Off) was a raptor.

Of course he gets irritated with how MS used terms like "console launch exclusive" and all of that similar stuff - but he didn't say boo when Sony did the same thing last year (or the year before, or...).

I wish I could be surprised by stuff like this from him.

I for one very much enjoy the stage show streams way more than what Nintendo does, and the shows would lose something for me if there was no audience there in person watching it live as I am watching it over the internet. I think other feels similarly, and some of those others are people who talk about stuff on YouTube and the like. You get a lot more excitement from the live show and more buzz.

I don't know how that does or does not affect game or hardware sales - but the online tone wrt to MS is way, way different now that it was before E3, and I think the live show + stream has at least something to do with that. EDIT - as in, the fact that it was live with an audience and streamed, not just what they showed that could have been showed via prerecorded stream thingy.

I didn't like Shia in that movie, so I guess Temple of Doom wins by default for me.

Temple of Doom is my least favorite of the original trilogy, for sure. Kate Capshaw is just annoying and looking back at it some of the racial stuff isn't great (white savior of indigenous people, comedy scene about what weird food other cultures eat, and I think the main guard that Indy fights on the conveyor belt scene is a white actor sprayed tan so he could play a person of color). But it has it's moments. Short Round is one of the few good examples of a kid sidekick, the practical effects with the bug room and heart ripping scene are great, and the end escape with the minecart to the final standoff on the rope bridge is classic.

Crystal Skull on the other hand is basically a Star Wars prequel in terms of how much of an embarrassment it is to the original films. Most of the location set pieces look like they were filmed on a soundstage. Shia LeBeouf is horribly miscast as Indy's son, although in his defense that character is poorly written (like all the other characters). The action scenes are mediocre at best, and full of awful CGI, like the vine swinging scene with the monkeys during the car chase/sword fight. There are frequent, painfully long "comedy" sketches that feel like bad improv, such as the quicksand scene. We get Inter-Dimensional Lifeforms because George Lucas wanted to do a 1950's alien movie and Steven Spielberg didn't think it would fit within a series based on treasure hunting and supernatural ancient powers told in their 1930's serial style - guess what, neither did Inter-Dimension Lifeforms.

And of course there is Indy surviving a nuclear bomb by getting in a refrigerator.

I believe this is who they referenced... I didn't see anything particularly jaw dropping. Just a somber society.

@no8axel: Dan doesn't have a film degree, and it's super disingenuous for him to continue claiming that he does. His degree is in General Studies.

It would be more accurate for him to say that he took some film classes that he never went to, because his General Studies degree required for him to have a pseudo-specialty.

@redhotchilimist: The PC they were using has roughly twice the GPU power of the Xbox one x, but the biggest difference is in cpu power. This generation of consoles has always been limited by relatively underpowered CPUs, and it tends to be a big problem in games with heavy physics simulations (Just Cause 3 is a good example), complex AI systems, and other CPU related tasks. Cyberpunk 77 feels like a next gen game to me, particularly since everything we've heard about it indicates that it'll be super dense with NPCs and detail.

I work at Toys R Us and nobody in my sector is in that facebook group. That said we've also given so little of a fuck lately that I doubt we'd invest any energy into pretending we cared about this company that's letting us off without severance.

i hope they don't get rid of the live press conferences. i enjoy them and like what xbox has done more so than what nintendo has done. i dont give a shit about corporate logistics for a company that is worth billions.

how is "console launch exclusive" misleading? it's pretty clear what it is, an exclusive to launch on xbox. what is confusing and misleading is showing a trailer then not saying one way or the other what it is.

This is completely anecdotal but I also believe Amazon will end its 20% discount for new games if you have Amazon Prime. I was trying to order Detroit with the discount from Amazon and it was unavailable until after launch.

Also there is some skepticism about those Gotti user reviews being legitimate in the first place.

@infinity_thor: The thing is that they keep adding qualifiers to the word "exclusive," which means that it's not as exclusive as it can be. Sony has absolutely said the same thing about indie titles and the like.

So when they say stuff like "coming exclusively to consoles on [platform]" it means that it's not REALLY an exclusive.

I really don't blame anyone not going to a conference where you're expected to wear a synchronized light bracelet and "most powerful console ever" shirts and whatnot. You become part of their ad, literally. (I'm sure not everyone wears those things, but it sure is all the people front and center in the camera shots...)
