This Is the Run: Contra: Hard Corps - Part 20

I was thinking about watching a complete video game. Will this be the run?

Dan nearly jumping off-screen towards the end's great.

Really annoyed no spoiler warnings were given. How was I supposed to know you'd actually beat the game this time??

Don't know if it's just me, but have GB East videos been weirdly choppy the last couple days? Like here at around 0:52 on the word "concentrate" (I skipped back a few times to make sure it's consistent). Framerate seems low too, or not stable at least.

I noticed it on 13Sims yesterday. I watched the first ~2 minutes live but then turned it off because it seemed choppy. Figured it was a stream problem, but then noticed the same issues on the archive.

It's best not to interpret the episode descriptions as literal.

Congrats! That is the end boss of this path! I think this is also the "best" ending path too.

Sigh, I think they lost four lives on the robot's slide, a slide which you can jump.

That was a shaky as hell start but really great recovery. I just watched a clip of that last boss and as long as they don't panic and work out the pattern, it seems super easy.

What would be a good four player game for This Is the Run?

I can think of a bunch of beat 'em ups... But those might be kind of tedious for this format.

Any ideas?

All I can think of is the Lantern Run in Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet. I don't think they ever actually finished that one back when they were doing that one with Ryan and Will Smith.

Good question. Hard to know what would "fit." Overcooked or Super Mario 3D World would be way too long. I really liked the Uncharteds co-op story missions where I think you can have 3 people, but its all online co-op and, again, probably doesn't fit. However, Dan is good at making rule sets that could maybe make some things work that don't seem like they would at first.

Finally we got to hear The Last Springsteen

When Dan counts forwards, they go on the 3. When he counts backwards, they go when he says go after the 1.

Yeah! This game just keeps going!

Not gonna lie, I had zero expectation that they would ever make it this far.

For next game for this feature, maybe one of the less ridiculously hard bullet hell shmups? Like Ikaruga except not actually Ikaruga because it's wwaaaaaaay too difficult. Maybe Deathsmiles on easy? Deathsmiles would be funny.

Contra: Hard Corps might be a headache to play, but I've never seen a game with better comedic timing. They wait just long enough for the previous boss to blow up. You think you're finally done, only for the next ridiculous opponent to slide onscreen & tell you you are very far from done, & you are totally fucked. I'm in love.

Episode 21 or 22 will be The Run. Count on it.

Hey, guys...tip for the two boss battles at the top of the missile: S.D.J. As Dan mentioned, you can slide through the first boss' beam that creeps toward you. Also, you can slide through the arms for the second boss' first phase, and you can do the same when the extension coming out of it during the second phase swings down. S.D.J.

that final boss is GROSS

I think spelunky would either be great or impossible depending on how they played it.

Hard Corps: Uprising

It's not quite this level of dumb but I enjoyed it. It's one of the few games of this type I played from start to finish in co-op and had a good time.

The Metal Slug games get really cheap near the end otherwise i'd suggest those.

THIS WAS THE RUN ...BEFORE THE ACTUAL RUN! They were so close. Vinny still had to shoot that thing for a good 25 seconds more though. They are going to have to learn the pattern quick or they wont be able to complete the game next time. They forgot about lying on the ground to shoot the maggots as well and you have to clear those fast.

That's still amazing progress for such a shaky start. You guys have this in the bag in the next ep or two easily.

That ending was pretty incredible!

By the way, I love Vinny's tactic of pleading, "Don't come to me! Don't come to me!" It immediately reminded me of The House of the Dead 2.

Dan plays on easy so when this is over he has to admit that Vinny is the better player and won the run.

lol, I'd love a supercut of them botching the start and having to realign on the fly. "Are we-" "Yeah, we're good."

My favorite instance of them just trying to run through an area so far was in part six (around the twelve-minute mark) when Vinny got hit (as Sheena) while running under the turrets prior to fighting Noiman and flipped out at Dan.
