Hey guys. Ready for this historic moment? This is it!

Damn it, part 4 isn't a livestream? ...I should have guessed it wasn't with it being 6am New York time, but still.

Edit: Haha that whole fire section was golden.

I get the feeling this version of Contra is actually a fraction easier than the arcade version I've been playing the last few days. For example, there's so much more going on during the floppy armed alien boss, with dudes running from both sides, 2 turrets and a row of 6 or 8 cannons; There's twice as much going on onscreen during the bubble boss which seems to take an extraordinary number of hits if using any gun that isn't the spread gun, and general enemy/boss placement is different or even doubled up as is the case of the disc spinning guy that I think they've encountered once now.

And the most infuriating one..Those bulldozer/tank things are impossible to destroy with normal gun or rapid fire. I've never gotten up to them with the correct weapon to destroy them.

Is this the general consensus or not?

I think what happened at the end there was that they pressed jump to fall through the platform. Unfortunately that stands you up as you fall.

Vinny and Dan is the greatest combo since peanut butter and chocolate. I love this team. This. Is. The. Run.

In two player you have to be way further forward on the screen in order for it to start scrolling which makes it way harder/less fair

Edit: The way this lines up makes it look identical at first glance but the screen scrolls with you centered in single player and in two player you've got to move roughly 3/4 of the way forward before it starts scrolling.

Dan really has to stop with the crap about one of them being in a certain spot to cover each other and slowing them up so much, especially in stage 3 where you should just be going when the opportunity presents itself. They burnt through so many lives today in the easy part of the game that the run was practically over before it started.

Stop releasing broken games, Konami!

Ahh, good stuff. Those flame jets are a pain when you don't understand how they work, but they are getting there.

Dan's played the Hudson Hawk game but never saw Hudson Hawk? Like, what?

I'm still loving this series, that was really enjoyable to watch.

I expect a lot of hilarity when they get to stage 7. I watched a video of it to refresh my memory and it's definitely a tough stage -- probably way harder than the 6th. Except for the boss, which should be cake.

@vinny I think you and @danryckert should be allowed to watch the Contra run from the recent AGDQ for some tips. Then you don't have to settle for just completing the game, you can go for a speedrun.

It's a design trade off. It gives both players more room to move about without just standing on top of each other the whole time. There would also be more unintentional scrolling. If it scrolled at the halfway point, neither player could move far enough ahead of the other to support each other.

I haven't started watching this series yet I will have to later today! I am excited!

Yes. They are jumping the gun at that top flame and need to wait for it to stop before they fall. I wonder if they could figure it out next time. Most of the times when they die it is because they are playing so nervously and jumpy. It's a weird mix of tense and hilarious. This game favors the bold, but punishes the anxious or impulsive.

Whenever they make guesses about the Contra story, I wonder if they know that the Japanese version has an intro, cutscenes between levels, and an ending. (Also a Castlevania-esque map and animated backgrounds)

Yeah, the hitbox was the first thing that I immediately thought of, hope they think of it next time!

Besides duckin' man, 25:55 is a truly wonderful sequence of events.
