Thursday Night Throwdown: 07/05/12

This game looks absolutely awful. I enjoyed the video, though.

Looks like the charm of the PSO1 boss battles are still not recaptured in this latest version. Though from what I recall part of what was good about them was they were confined in tight spaces.

@freakin9: Felt pretty confined in the Desert boss. There were three and they kept sucking me in. I had no idea what I should have been doing.

Though I do kind of agree, bosses don't feel as special. They even have the Dragon in the game (I can't remember if Jeff did a quest against it in this TNT or if it was the salamander like thing) and it just doesn't feel as cool. It doesn't even fly.

Getting NOLed in PSO1 on the Dreamcast was such a dick move. Because that's it, you're done, you have to start a brand new character. And my character didn't even turn into the girl Nol, I turned into the main male Human default character! But a big, fat, slow walking version of him that filled up most of the screen! I was so mad!

Ship 10 has a pretty good English community that seems to be growing incredibly quickly. I started a GiantBomb guild there, if anyone wants to join up and play together.

Edit: FOUND IT! His name is tittyfucking69. He's a robot in the back. Black and white coloration.

That synchronised dancing at the beginning was a thing of beauty.

@Lucri: Man, between Nol, PKing and BSOD, PSO when I look back on it is alot like being in the .hack series. I literally bought a gameshark to protect myself, lol. But through all of that I still had some of the greatest times in gaming.

The MAGs should be dancing too after feeding them of course.

@Grissefar: It means getting your character completely hacked. Nol is a NPC in the game that they used as a template for the character hacking, so it was nicknamed "Getting NOLed" when your character was messed with. It changes the way your character looks and messes up the character, for me though, I didn't get THIS particular NOLing, cause I know with NOL you can still play, you're just defaulted back to level 5 (and I think you can effect others with it? Not sure), whatever mine was called did not allow me to play with my character again. The camera angle was rotating around my rotund, extremely slow moving human male character. (FYI, NOT my own photo, someone actually took a picture of their NOLed character)

@ProfessorK: At first I was very naive and didn't realize you could even hack at all, once I found out, I made it a point to NEVER accept any sort of weapons, gifts, etc because they always had a chance to be hacked items. And eventually I almost never played in open games. Until that fateful day. :( I was a level 91, had new daggers I found but they were too high level for me because I needed to be level 93 or 94, then I got NOLed. :( After that, I quit PSO.

Nice touch at the end Vinnie, I do have the right glasses for that at hand for some stupid reason and it worked fine.

This game looks super dull though. Glad Jeff likes it, he seems to get so little happiness out of most games. Even the ones he likes disappoint him in too many ways.

OH MY, THE MUSIC IS AWFUL

It doesnt look like a bad game but PSO 2 just seems boring. But, then again, this is coming from a person who never played the original and also would never want to fumble around the whole no English (for now) thing.

@Lucri: Sorry to hear that and I feel your pain brother! I think the character you got turned into is Mome, the fat, coward ranger that you escort through the Caves.
