Unfinished: Playerunknown's Battlegrounds 04/05/2017

I remember years ago reading Battle Royale and thinking how perfect that would be for a video game. I'm glad the ARMA mods/DayZ have provided a perfect host for this type of video game.

I don't know why I'm so excited to watch this right now, but I'm way into it.

I got this game a few days ago and I've put like 20 hours into it. My first foray into the "ARMA"-like type game thing. It's janky as shit. It's got long stretches of not much going on, but I gotta say....it's somehow compelling. Oh and always always always x1,000,000 hit CTRL+T to turn off the other peoples mics. It's pretty fun. Very silly.

The shooting in this game feels really good and the start of this QL is already great. There's ironsights , red dots and ACOGs etc in the game but you have to double tap right click to go into aiming and this works in third person too.

Never played one of these games before but this seems like pretty cool frantic fun!

This was a great video! Playerunknown's Battlegrounds seems like one of the most well put together and enjoyable one of these kinds of games. It wouldn't be a bad contender for The Run.

@uninvincible: It is a lot of fun and probably one of the best BR games but at the moment its struggling with bad optimization and laggy servers. They released a update for this yesterday, but they had to pull it because of a memory leak that was found.

This game seems great except online multi-player was ruined for me years ago and I will never go back. I grew up playing quake and quake 2 and quake 3 and unreal tournament online and somewhere along the line I got tired of getting called the n word and told to get cancer and die.

Fuck online gaming could be a lot more fun but hte people ruin it :(

This game is absolutely incredible. You may think $30 is a lot to ask for a janky, unoptomized early-ass early access game; I certainly did. But I took a chance on this one, and boy am I glad I did. Being in the final 10 is one of the biggest rushes I've ever felt in a game, period. Get this if the premise at all interests you.

100 people dropped on an island with nothing, and fight to the death.

So, this is a natural evolution of the DayZ type games then? Why did no one make a Battle Royale-style game like this before, considering how old that movie/book is and how popular these types of games but without any goal are already?

I think Vinny has stumbled across the best strat for games like these: because no one runs straight through fields in fear of being shot, running straight through fields is the safest option :P

I jest, but I feel like I'd be insanely cautious playing a game like this. Clearing a house seems impossible though, in that it seems impossible to kill someone who is holding an angle inside of a structure...

You are 100% correct on that. Although it would be quite an achievement for them to get to #1. I've only managed it once before myself on a group game. Was really intense!

It might not seem like it at first sight, but this game is actually just the first tough guy fashion game. This game is not about fighting or surviving, its about finger-less gloves, trench coats and blue combat pants (blue jeans).

Vinny not constantly checking his flank while running through was really stressful. This games cool though. Its unfinished but they have a pretty good idea of what they're doing, with weekly and monthly updates. Seems like its on the right track.

This seems like a rough game to ql.

Around the 6:25 mark Vinny mentions how he finds the game kind of tense at times but that he imagines that feeling will dissipate the more he plays.

I found that the exact opposite has happened for me. The more time I spend playing the game and becoming more proficient, and the closer I come to winning each time, the intensity just keeps piling on.

I've put in about 25 hours and only gotten that much sought after top spot with 3 of my friends once. I got to top three in solo play once and it was the most intense, terrifying and awesome experience that I've had in gaming for quite a while.

Please please PLEASE... do a Playdate where you guys all play this together live for a few hours.

I'm really not into these types of games, but that Shotgun kill was DOPE.

@steveurkel: I play online mp regularly and I don't think I've heard anyone talk like that online in years, since at least COD on the 360.

That got real tense, especially the last one despite the pacifist run. This whole thing is anxiety inducing so I can feel why Alex was getting a little antsy.

This game seems fun. I haven't played the ARMA Battle Royale mod, but I played hundreds of hours of DayZ when it first came out and this seems to be similar in that sort of nervous high tension way of scavenging for weapons and items and never knowing where the enemy is on this huge open island.

And the satisfaction you get from spending hours upon hours of creeping through bushes to finally get a good sight on an unaware player and killing him/her.

Player Unknown is the creator of the original mod, as well as helped develop the mode for H1Z1, initially. H1Z1 has been out for like 2 years now, and still doesn't do several things as good as this game, barely a week out of early access. If you're looking to attempt to get into this kind of game, this is the most full featured one.

None of the advice I've yelled at the screen has helped. This is very difficult.

I don't know. There is something about this game that I just don't like. There seems to be a certain crowd that like these type of games on Twitch and stuff, and I want no part of them. Maybe I'm being paranoid.

@re4ctor: I've never wanted anything more. It would be great with Dan and Alex both providing commentary.

I believe there was a comment said if this is successful on PC, they'll look into bringing this to console.

I'll join the crowd in saying that I would love a "This is the run" series for this game!

This looks really fun but once again I don't want to play an early access version. Hopefully this gets "finished" one day.

Wow, this game is really intriguing and tense as hell. Vinny playing when the stakes are high calls for some great moments just like in Hitsmass. I'm intrigued to get in this myself.

You can tell it's intense when someone gets shushed in real life because the person playing wants to be quiet in game.

I'm loving this game!

Definitely needs a few more tweaks to first person and then I'll exclusively play the first person mode. Third person camera really messes with the gameplay.
