Unfinished: The Solus Project 05/12/2016

We wander an alien world and drink of its waters, eat of its food, and die of its fiery hell-sky.

Sometimes we look at a game before it's done. When that's the case? Well... it must be Unfinished.

That audio work during the storm was intense! Some geuinely creepy sounds going on there. Also didn't expect Vinny to throw out a D&D reference to Wave Echo Cave, I'm playing through that campaign at the moment, and it feels like ages since the GB D&D campaign.

If you're itching for something (roughly) in the vein of that GB D&D stuff, I'd HIGHLY recommend checking out Austin's "Friends at the Table" podcast and/or the McElroys' "The Adventure Zone" (which actually starts out with the Lost Mines of Phandelver before moving onto an original campaign of Griffin McElroy's design) podcast.

One thing that always seems to get brought up when Friends at the Table is recommended is the fact that the first few episodes of FatT have some audio quality issues. Those DO get ironed out and it's absolutely worth it to stick through it (and honestly, the audio quality in those first episodes isn't even THAT bad).

@dedbeet: You've got the name right. A lot of the Ferelden areas in Inquisition are surprisingly effective and evoking the geography of the British Isles.

I'm sure some people love this genre of game, but man am I sick of it.

I'd like to see a survival game where the idea is to find a way to kill yourself as quickly as possible.

I agree it's interesting to see a combination of survival game trappings with a more narrative / linear story. The complete lack of story or direction always puts me off those games. But I'd be worried based on this that the mechanics would tend to get in the way - having to look for food/water/heat sources every 15 minutes didn't appear to add much beyond annoyance at your scanner telling you to do something as you're trying to explore.

Didn't view just yet but got some time in with this not too long ago - really liked the weather anomalies and the overall mystery vibe. Definitely interesting and seems the devs are updating it pretty substantially.

Funny QL. I'm interested in the mystery surrounding the survival part of this game. The atmosphere and style of exploration really help. Thanks guys!

What actually killed them half way through this? Was it like a giant asteroid? I like the combination of a proper story with a survival game, as survival game are really getting rote at the moment.

I can't remember the last time a Quick Look made me change my opinion on a game so much.

When I heard this was a single player survival game I was excited, and my friend even bought it for me. But after seeing how it's just a linear walk through reading pages of text I couldn't be any less interested.

@gbrading: I'm pretty sure the game killed them for being outside at night, though it didn't say "exploded" on their kill screen like the second time when they died due to meteoroid/debris shower.

I had no idea this is what this game is. A it seems a narrative game first, then a survival game, even though the narrative is vague. Will look forward to the finished version if I'm not too distracted w/ No Man's Sky.

Probably figures that a mouse cursor is something more easily perceived than using a controller. Which is accurate though I wouldn't think it that big of a deal either way.

Having played through what they have so far, the crafting/survival elements feel kind of shoehorned in and end up being more of just inventory management. Theres really only one way a set of ingredients can combine for the most part which kind of makes the crafting trivial. The setting is neat, narrative seems to be going in an interesting direction even though it has "The All-Story" vibe with some precursor alien stuff.

That storm is genuinely terrifying even after the first time it happens.

I felt like some of the gameplay elements (like hieroglyph translation) were eerily similar to gameplay elements seen in No Man's Sky.
