And that is how Giantbombing stopped working at all... next week... DOTA2 week... only quickloocks of dota2, only endurance runs of dota2, thursdaynight throwdown with dota2, unprofessional friday with dota2, and I love DOTA 2 at Monday...

Ryan's oddly silent in this one...but otherwise a great start, I have to say!

Also, I'll just be the one to do this.

Good timing that Metric came on stage at Coachella once they started playing Dota 2. Ditched this and watched that instead.

@irishalwaystaken: I was the axe. I tried to hang back a bit and not focus on heroes too much. I eventually became worried about the match being drawn out too much though, and ending a game can be a pretty drawn out process so at a point I just went for it.

Congratulations; you were the worst player on the second to worst Dota team ever made.

Personally I was so happy the rest of the night, having played a game with all these guys was very exciting. I've peaked, I should leave.. haha

i loved bioforge when it came out! Still have the box. Tank-like controls were kinda bad already then, but the setting and the atmosphere is killer.

After almost 20 years, it kinda holds up relatively well. You can at least see what they were going for. Great choice for fridays.

Thank god we have gog now. :D

It was a good game. I didn't want that many kills as I wanted them to have a chance for a team fight. I got a good jump on them a couple of times out of a tree line. Was a fun game, I was way more nervous then I should have been. I really havent played more then 3 bot matchs.

It's really fun to watch them all learn, but my God they need a decent coach. Watching them fumble about isn't frustrating in the least, but watching their 'coach' provide no useful information really is. They could be enjoying the game so much more if they knew the basics. I know that Tay wasn't there to be a coach specifically and kind of got roped into it, but I feel like the guys would have had a far more positive experience had they had a more pro-active hand pushing them along.

DOTA is a game that desperately needs a more fully fledged tutorial but in place of that, it really does do wonders to have someone briefly explain the basics before the game (the need to buy items immediately at the start and what to get, which spells to get in which order and stuff like that). A lot of that stuff isn't all that complicated either, it's just that no-one touched on any of it.

Also I was expecting to cringe a bunch at them playing Dota 2 again (I have a good 1500 hours into it and have been playing the genre for like 3 years) but it was really funny to watch. I liked that Vinny and Drew seemed in.

glad you enjoyed it in the end, but i hope this means you're putting their gameplay into perspective, unlike a bunch of overzealous/entitled twats that seems to be popping out of the woodwork at the mere mention of dota on this site.

there's way too much use of the word "cringe" lately around here. do people REALLY take this shit so painfully seriously? i think it'd do them a good favor if they step back for a bit and realize 1. it's a game and when all's said and done meant to be good-natured entertainment and 2. that they used to be as bad when they started.

this is kind of an omnidirectional rant, i'm not singling you out. you at least seem somewhat rational compared to all the other uppity 10,000 hour clocked in DOTA-ers.

It's not exactly a massive reaction. So I guess no, they don't take it so painfully seriously. It's just hard not to see everything someone's doing wrong when it's something you've done for hours and hours and hours in the past.

It bothers me way more when people complain about them doing this game or that because it doesn't interest them personally. Seeing a lot of posts saying "Never play DOTA again!" Giant Bomb releases more than enough content to reasonably expect it won't be 100% for you.

Also, I'm really starting to sour on the new video player. I miss the one from before the CBS change. They haven't worked properly since. Now I can't skip around in progressive, the video can't be rewatched without reloading if it finished completely, and there've been a lot of small bugs like the progress bar going crazy.

I do hope this is the end of Dota 2 week for Giant Bomb. I'm sure its probably interesting to watch for fans of the game but for me at least there is just no interest at all. Usually with other games that I dont care about I can find something to enjoy but not really with Dota.

To not end on a negative note, the rest of the stream was awesome.

Then don't watch. You're not going to like every ounce of content they release. But someone else is bound to. Hopefully they do more.

The other team in Dota 2 played way too aggressive in a match where they knew who they were playing against.

I mean, come on guys, you knew the Bomb Squad were playing their first game and on a live stream too. You could have gone a little easier on them to make things more fun.

I should have chosen a different character. Other wise I was nervous for some reason, also some one else on the team was racking up kills and I wanted to sort of keep up. In hind sight I should have done something else. Like try to kill jungle stuff. I usually have trouble getting gold too, I die to much and you lose like half your gold. Maybe we should sent our team in 1 or 2 at a time.

This. Fuck DOTA

Fuck DOTA indeed. I left the stream in a huff last night, when they started playing it. Playing it on TNT and UF in the same week is rather excessive. IMO of course!

Having said that, playing it at all is rather excessive, in my book.

I will add however, that the look at Bioforge totally made up for it! I laughed so hard, I think a bit of pee came out.

Some one should have mentioned not to hit people when you are near turrets at the start of the game. Looked like bot lane was in trouble really early and then they had to back away from all their exp.

We were chosen because we were new. I only just started playing, so I can hardly be accused of being good enough to play aggressively. I barely know how to play.

Who cares about Dota? Bioforge looked fuckin' awesome.

I can't believe that game came out in 95, it looks way ahead of its time.

If I'm not mistaken, Doom came out just a couple of years earlier and it was completely sprite based. Seeing an engine using 3d models that show battle damage so soon after Doom is nuts! There's also voice acting and cinematics, it's kind of mindblowing.

It also has some puzzles, door opening minigames, log entries that are actually super dark and remind me of Itchy Tasty in REmake. It seems like a pretty awesome game, but I'm gonna bet it sold like garbage and that not many people could run it at the time, similar to Deus Ex and System Shock 2, which are both considered overlooked gems of their time that have found a lot of popularity in recent years. It seems like no one makes games like that anymore because developers/investors are so afraid of trying anything new nowadays. I miss it when crazy games like Bioforge were made.

I'm just glad that GB opened my eyes to this game, I absolutely love overlooked PC games from the mid 90s.

Keep in mind that this was before twitter and SMS messaging, where every game came with a 150 page manual and you pretty much had to go through 20 minutes of config.sys and autoexec.bat editing before you could play many games. It was reasonable to expect people to have the patience to read a 10 paragraph set of in-game text back then.

I burst out laughing during this bit. Partly because of the extreme length of the log BUT I got highly amused by watching Drews face. He really can't believe what he is looking at and if Drew makes that face regarding something like that you know it's quite crazy and extreme :D
