Not gonna lie. I was kind of hoping this interview would be a little more crazy. But it seems like Dyack has calmed down a lot. I hope it results in a good game.

Haven't heard that guy's voice since that 1Up Yours episode. To be honest I always felt that he had some good points even back then, and good to see that he is back and doing something that he feels passionate about and is saying all the right things here.

I didn't know this was an interview until about three minutes in. Seemed like it was just Dyack talking into a mic.

I quite liked Eternal Darkness, and I missed all the brohuaha about Dyack and SK.

So I'm kinda sad their campaign didn't go anywhere. Oh well.

God damn is it depressing to hear people try to spin their Kickstarter failiure as a success.

If I were them I'd stop letting Denis Dyack talk to anyone, the guy has too much baggage from the failure of Silicon Knights to be a reasonable spokeman for any game.

Dennis Dyack. Says he is a changed man, says he should no longer interact with his audience because it hurts the company. Then, helps found a company with the main goal being high audience - developer interaction...

Toss in the Silicon Knights drama and Kickstarter bullshit and you have a pretty skeptical crowd. I don't want to listen to another word from that guy. He needs to seriously put something of value out there before a single fuck will be given.

Remember guys, don't be dicks on the internet.

With all of this misdirection, question evasion, and dishonesty, I'd think Patrick was interviewing a corporate spokesperson, not an indie developer. They refuse to acknowledge that the crowdfunding campaign wasn't successful. They refuse to talk to their fanbase in an honest and direct way. Instead they just give typical corporate PR speak and try to pretend everything is fine.

If these guys want to know why their campaign failed so hard (and it was a huge failure) they only need to look at their own speech. They aren't indie. They're independent, yes, but they're trying to pretend they're a big boy AAA studio and they put on the act, too, complete with stilted interaction with their fans. They claim that their community is so important to them, then walk that walk. Follow through, give them some realtalk for once. Stop pretending that you're talking at an E3 press conference. They completely fail to connect to any potential fans on any meaningful level, they do a really poor job of appearing human to their audience, and nobody wants to fund a kickstarter that's ran like that.

Except that part happened in the novel A Storm of Swords (which is what Season 3 of GoT is adapting) which was released before Eternal Darkness. So no, he did not do it first.

I don't trust Dyack and have not trusted Dyack for some time

BUT I will say that this is absolutely the right tack to take. He's contrite, he's apologizing.

He's very responsable for the death of SK, and the spiraling insanity that consumed the games from his studio along with his games (very lovecraftian actually now that I think about it)

But he does sound like he's trying to be sinceir, I'm willing to listen now, even if I'm not willing to open my wallet. I'll be very interested to see how his studio handles this crowdsourcing of the Precursor game. If it blows people's socks off I'll cheer for him again.

... Still, contrition only goes so far. Precursor games is still a bit weird as far as legal shell games go. Not illegal, but not necessarily totally legit either since it's basically SK's people making SK's game with SK's assets :V
