Is it going to be decently ok or awful? There can be no in-between.
Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric
Game » consists of 4 releases. Released Nov 11, 2014
A Wii U tie-in to the "Sonic Boom" spin-off television series, following Sonic the Hedgehog and his three chatty friends as they work together to foil the plans of an ancient snake-like monster.
This game comes out this week.
Wait. This is the THIRD Wii U exclusive Sonic game? I had no idea that even one had come out.. let alone three.

Sonic Lost World, Mario & Sonic, and this one.
@theimmortalbum: I'm pretty sure this is the second one. Sonic Lost World was the first game in the deal and it just came out last year so... yeah. Whoever edited the header thing for this game is wrong.
the people making bondage fanart with sonic last 20 years finally made it onto a dev team, let's see what they do with it clap for em
All I know is I've been listening to Console Wars for a week now and looking at where EVERYTHING went from that era makes me incredibly depressed when I see a mention of this game.
@crithon: Yes, the TV show debuts Saturday and seems all right if you were into the old Sonic cartoons (which I was)
Just about the only thing I've heard or seen about this game since it was announced was one or two of the bombsquad guys saying it was terrible after having played/seen it. I'm looking forward to the quicklook to see in what ways, seeing as how it still looks to be quite different from other, recent Sonic games.
Isn't the game suppose to coincide with a big TV show release?
Yes, which might be alright since every Sonic cartoon (EXCEPT UNDERGROUND) has been at least decent and SatAM was great.
Yeah, a lot of fans tell me about their Sonic Love, except hearing nothing from fans of animation talking about this show. I think I heard more about Bee and Puppycat and Stephen Universe from these friends who LOVE Sonic and even still collect the Archie comics. And I fallow a lot of animation guys, I'm surprised I haven't heard a "hey guys I did the storyboards on this."

Well it's CGI, so that's an entirely different skillset from traditional animation.

Nope, it's the third. The first was Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, the second was Lost World, and this is the third. Source: Eurogamer.
@crimsonavenger: Ah. Didn't know that game counted. (And actually forgot it even existed…) Thanks for the clarification.
My love of Sonic ended with 3D Blast. What a shit game! Also every Sonic cartoon sucked. People fool themselves by saying the Saturday morning cartoon was good but really? Does it hold up like a Batman TAS or Gargoyles? When was the last time you actually watched it?
As for the comic, I found it too kiddie at the age of 10. By that time I was reading stuff like X-Men, Daredevil, and Batman so poor Sonic couldn't compete with grim dark 90's comics.
@corevi: nope nope, there's a lot of 2d storyboard artists, and at this point most animators have 3D skill sets, even if it's basic modeling. Like Gravity Falls a lot of those guys are Tangled, Frozen and Wreck it Ralph modelers, Nick TMNT has a lot of 2D storyboard artists or Kora has Artists from How to Train Your Dragon and Marvel films on that. A lot of these productions might just be hiring guys to design works for the BG, but their storyboard work needs a lot of 2D guys.
@yummylee: I played the demo earlier, it's ok I guess. seems to be focussed on shifting between four characters breaking the flow of the gameplay. Sonic and his pals all move fine and it seems to be far more forgiving that most modern Sonic games.
I assume you could probably just burn through the levels, but it seems like it wants you to collect a whole bunch of shit. I dunno. Not really what I want, but seems better than the last two 3DS games.
If you're really into hearing Roger Craig Smith grunt/yelp/cheer every five seconds this is the game for you.

Well, now that you mention it...
So some people got it and I hear it is unbelievable garbage. Look at this gif. http://i.imgur.com/wM3oD3M.gif

Wait, what exactly is the unbelievable garbage part of that gif? It's not just that Amy Rose is there, right?
Also, here's the gif:
This game looks great to me. It looks to be the Sonic game I've always wanted. They've reduced the amount of speed based platforming and focused more on exploration. Allowing you to switch back and forth between characters is exactly what I've been wanting in a Sonic game. This looks to be a huge improvement over Lost World. What I want in a Sonic is a focus on exploration, open world, no running segments, and allowing you to switch between characters at any time. Lost World was a poor Sonic game because they built a world around Sonic's powers. Instead it should be adapting Sonic's powers to the kind of environment you want to make.
I'm already committed to buying this, bought the WiiU and everything last week. But when some people are saying it's Sonic '06 levels of bad? Yeah, starting to sweat it a bit.

It was about the quality of the graphics and how poor they are.
From things getting posted around the internet it looks really bad. The visuals seem to be really, really poor. I've seen references to it playing like the Werehog sections in Unleashed, but I know how people can distort Sonic stuff.
The 3DS demo as I mentioned above seems like an ok Sonic game. Sanzaru have platforming experience with Sly 4 which was well received despite nobody playing it. If this is as terrible as it seems that makes three bad Sonic games in a row now. Oh Generations you were so awesome.
I forgot I even made this thread. I never post any more. Was a treat seeing it on the front page. I'm not actually any kind of sonic fan. I was mostly surprised I had seen nothing on this game but maybe those gifs explain why. Hopefully people interested in it can have fun!
Well, my nephews were over today and played some Sonic Generations and Racing Transformed.
I got all the achievements in Generations and think Racing Transformed is the best kart racer ever made. So they should do follow ups to those.
Yes, with a Kazuma Kiryu Kart! Gimme some of that KKK!
...err...
@starvinggamer: Oh shiiiit! That looks like it may have needed a little more development time.
I'm not convinced it's going to be Sonic 06 levels of busted though. That game is extraordinarily broken and gameplay footage of this game looks like it actually works despite its seemingly poor quality.
I do like the way Tail's tails move though.
@starvinggamer: Wow, looks like we might have a quick look of the year candidate waiting to happen. Jeez this looks broken!
Well, I bought my copy this morning (WiiU version) and put over an hour into it. It's an average PS2 platformer. That doesn't mean it's completely terrible though, just outdated and average. Combat is mindless, and is just there. Aside from a few running sequences it doesn't really play like a Sonic game, which might be a good selling point for some. I imagine kids will have a blast with it. The dialogue is close to the TV show (which I thought was good) but the spacing on it is poor, just line after line with no breaks in between. If I had to sum it up, I'd call it inoffensive and unpolished.
Was tempted to pick up the 3DS version, but the demo was so slow and tedious I decided to wait for a sale.
@corevi: Not an Assassin's Creed guy so I can't fairly say, but maybe?
