Overview
Super Robot Jump Jump is a 2D platformer featuring a small character named Robot. His brain (CPU) interacts with him throughout the story as they nonchalantly pursue a terrible evil.
The game features 4 worlds sporting 20 levels each with a boss battle that will allow progression to the next world. Only 17/19 levels are required to be cleared before unlocking the boss and progress can be seen on the level select screen.
SRJJ's difficulty curve is incredibly high. However it features two difficulty modes easy/hard so less experienced platforming players can also enjoy the game. The difference between the modes is usually less deadly traps in a level but also increases some of the timers and simplifies some of the boss encounters.
Gameplay
Super Robot Jump Jump features a simple move and jump control scheme and focuses primarily on the avoidance of deadly traps.
The controls are very tight and allow maneuvering with extreme accuracy even while airborne. The ability for precise control is utilized heavily in later levels to give some very precise levels and difficult challenges.
SRJJ has local 2 player Co-op that spawns a second pink robot who functions as an assisting player to player 1. There are four control layouts available and the game has no skill variance between them. A keyboard can perform just as well as a controller however most players find themselves most comfortable on an Xbox controller (or another compatible Xinput controller).
Collectibles
Every level has an unlockable for perfecting it and reaching the goal in a desired speed called a "Speed Star". These times are based on the developers best time plus 1 second.
In each world there are also ten Cogs that are either hidden or trapped behind an additional challenge to unlock. Acquiring each of the ten cogs in a world will unlock something special when those levels are revisited. (I wonder what it could be!)
Development
Super Robot Jump Jump started development in February 2015 and was created primarily by Matt "Sciar" Rathbun. Originally working as a show host for the Korean company GOMtv he built Super Robot Jump Jump in his free time as a hobby project until deciding to dedicate full time effort.
A few months into development Sebastian Wagner joined the team as the games artist and has been with the project ever since.
The musical score was written by Benedict Nichols. While the trailer audio and story cutscene audio was written by Steven McDonald.
