Yea but MW3 is more of a "95% of the sales are day 1 buyers" where as skyrim is more like profits might take a month for word of mouth to get around to those that never played another elder scrolls game but I could see it making more money then MW3. Also rightfully so as it's a tremendously better game.

The fifth installment in Bethesda's Elder Scrolls franchise is set in the eponymous province of Skyrim, where the ancient threat of dragons, led by the sinister Alduin, is rising again to threaten all mortal races. Only the player, as the prophesied hero the Dovahkiin, can save the world from destruction.
Turns Out Skyrim Has Already Made Gobs of Money
I still wish the PC were the 'leader' in the gaming space. Skyrim has instilled a lot of promise for the PC in my eyes...the last few PC games I bought were severe disappointments on the PC in particular: Rage and Dead Island were console games that got shafted BADLY on the PC, the platform they should have dominated. Skyrim is more stable than Fallout3 from what I've seen so far, but it still crashes on an order of magnitude more than its console versions. There's lot of good reasons for this, but as a PC gamer I cant help but feel a high level of frustration when I say, "why didn't I get this for PS3/360?" when I have an awesome machine to play PC games on. /senseless rant
I ordered my copy on the Wednesday before the launch and have not yet received my copy. I contacted the store and they said that they can't get it from anywhere in Europe for at least 1-2 weeks. That's pretty rare, usually I've received my game orders on launch day if I've pre-ordered them.

Best $60 I've spent this year. Skyrim is fucking incredible and it's great too see Bethesda rewarded for the enormous efforts they've put into the game. I shouldn't even be here typing this. I should be playing.
I agree completely.
Seconded. 16 hours in, and barely done any of the main quest. My quest log has about 30 random quests, not including the main ones. I can't wander for 10 minutes without something amazing happening. I absolutely love this game.

Let's hope it makes more than 775 millions and see more games as good as skyrim in the years to come.
You mean cheap ripoffs.
As soon as I'm finished with Dark Souls I'm gonna get and play....Zelda.
But after that I'm gonna play this.
The press release mentions that 50% of the 7 million units shipped were sold in the first 48hrs and they are having difficulties manufacturing enough units for the restocking demand. Now the thing I find interesting is that we don't know if these numbers include the Steam sales or not, they probably do but you don't really "Ship" a digital release, there is a 1:1 relationship between Shipped and Sold with most digital releases (unless you put some arbitrary limit on downloads). This may mean that they haven't sold through half of the physical launch copies but either way these numbers are amazing.
What's amazing about this game, just 5gb in size, i've spent 53hours so far playing on master difficulty, level38, and just started the elder scroll part of the main quest and doesn't seem like any end in sight, you go do a side quest and end up finding 2-3 more sidequests just to complete that first one, the amount of content in this game is just sick. Well done to Bethesda, they deserve this success.

It doesn't, steam very rarely discloses it's sales numbers.
I took this week off from work for a little R&R and to play Skyrim. It is both the best and worst decision I've made this year. Best being that it's fucking incredible, worst being that it's sucking the life from my withered husk. About 50 hours in and I'm nowhere near finished. I'm only halfway through the main story ripping the shit out of dragons now (level 44).
It's nice to see Bethesda getting their dues, but it's also a shame to see MW3 still dominating with the same old shit for the fifth year in a row.
Yep, Norse mythology inspired RPGs and military shooters...just like 4 or 5 years ago.
And they say gamers want evolution, innovation, new genres, new stories and new ideas...my-my, how far have we come!
What's next: another zombie game? Another WW2 shooter? Another Warcraft MMO clone?
As much as Patrick enjoys jerking off Bethesda, the idea that there's a negative correlation between Skyrim and Call of Duty sales seems a little ridiculous. The markets aren't even the same and I highly doubt people were having to decided between an extremely mainstream and popular shooter or a epic fantasy-RPG. Either way the game is excellent and has done extremely well but I wouldn't put too much weight on the "OMFG IT ALMOST BEAT CALL OF DUTY" argument.
A million times deserved, goes to prove good games are also rewarded! About 40 hours in and no sign of an end, might be one of my best purchases decisions in a while, loving the game, worth the praise!
Oh Bethesda, you make games that I really wanna play and they sell very well, yet for some reason you can never release one without some kind of problem that nearly ruins the game for me.
Seriously the PS3 version is so poorly optimized that I can barely play for an hour before everything turns into a slide show and it eventually freezes.

Perhaps you need to reinstall it? I'm playing it fine and I'm 25+ hours in. Also do you have a slim or a fat PS3?
Nearly 100 hours in, like 8 or so more to go. I am so insanely hooked, it feels like I've seen but a fraction of the game still. A main quest that was actually pretty damn good too, in a Bethesda game! By Talos!
@VoxelIs that...450 million dollars coming from your ears?So you know a few game studios, am I supposed to be impressed?@TheMasterDS said:
I heard Bethesda murdered the high king, with its voice.
I used to be into game studios murdering kings with their voice, then I took an arrow to the knee.

Tempted to buy a PS3 copy in addition to my PC copy…
Don't. The PS3 version is pure trash.
Haven't bought the PC version yet (but I will when the GOTY edition is released), playing it on PS3 right now without any major issues, just the usual Bethesda jankiness. Care to explain why the PS3 version in particular is trash?
