I know the creator doesn't work for Sony anymore and this is his last game. Today I got a call from Game Stop stating the game is canceled and I should get my money back. Whats up? Are they just unsure as we are?
The Last Guardian
Game » consists of 8 releases. Released Dec 06, 2016
The Last Guardian is the long-delayed third game from Sony's Team Ico. Originally revealed in trailer form at E3 2009, the game was met with substantial delays but was reintroduced at E3 2015.
Canceled
No, I doubt they'll shut the studio down because one dude left.
And also, Gamestop wouldn't make announcements like this FOR Sony. Sony has it's own PR team. What MIGHT have happened is that the game was delayed, Gamestop employees were told to call people and inform them, and somewhere along the line it got distorted into "GAME'S CANCELLED EVERYONE GO HOME"
Why would you pre-order a game that far from release? Its not like you won't get the game if you pre-order a week before its released.

I usually do it because I don't have the time to follow games until their launch, or the patience. Putting down $5 to have someone call me and tell me my game is ready to come be picked up is great because in the past year I have had 6 games that I forgot were releasing. Gamestop gave me a call and I had a great, and unexpected, gaming night.
It's just a rumor right now- as these calls from Gamestop are the only sign of this being true. Other than that, there's been absolutely no proof yet.
Gamestop sometimes has a disturbing tendency for being ludicrously uninformed... So there's no need to lament until we get an official announcement from Sony.
That and to my knowledge, Gamestop's the only retailer that's removed the Last Guardian listing so far. So this is probably just another instance of them being uninformed.
Here was the call to Gamespot regarding the cancellation, if anyones interested.

I doubt they'll just throw away all the work that's been done until now, unless they have to for legal reasons (as in the creator retained some IP rights and is refusing Sony use of his IP). They'll release it eventually.
Given the following link from a mere few weeks ago, I doubt its an IP squabble:

I was really looking forward to this game, and would like to remain positive, but I fear its cancellation may be a reality. It seems strange to me to take so many years to even come out with a playable demo. Then there's Ueda's departure.
In terms of Gamestop refunding pre-orders, it is not in a business' interest to do refunds, to give ppl their money back. I don't think they would refund money unless they were quite certain that the project was indeed cancelled. Hopefully it was just a major clerical error......... I truly hope so....

It wasn't, according to IGN

Or you know.. the day it comes out. I buy a lot of my games the day they come out, I come at the end of the day and there are always plenty of copies around.
Either way this game won't be cancelled, they already said development will continue. Maybe a delay, but it looks like they're too deep into it to really cancel.
Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if it is being silently left to die. Extra-long development time without much to show for it is not a good sign. This being the end of the year, Gamestop might just want to clean out their books, but I still have my worries for the game itself.
well what can i say ps3 was known for its cancelations this would not be the first time ,
lets take a step back and look what has been cancelled already
1 saints row
2 wwe smackdown vs raw 2007
3 agent
4 last guardian --
5 timesplitters 4
so ya i think its a bummer but at the same time wheres the people who bought a ps2? i expected to see a repeat but i guess sony finally let those people down and this is the result
Several sources are updating as we speak- Sony's saying its still in development.
Calm down everyone- looks like Gamestop has indeed jumped the gun. For again- they seem to be the only retailer removing the Last Guardian from their listings. I haven't seen any other retailer do that yet.
I would be slightly disappointed, but not totally shocked if this turned out to be true. The thing to cling on in this scenario though is some memories from the not-so-distant past. Most games that languish in development hell and get cancelled, are cancelled for a reason. Companies don't can multi-million dollar projects because a guy quit. I loved Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. The quality of those experiences does not guarantee the quality of The Last Guardian.
Another thing to think about, as stated earlier, Gamestop isn't in the business of handing back money to customers unless they have to. Someone at Sony must have told them to do that. Or, the entire story is a lie and this dude is pulling out collective pud.
They've spent too much money and time working on the game, and there's a lot of hype for it, they're not just going to cancel it.
I'd be more worried about the end product now. Something must have gone seriously wrong for the lead producer to quit, and projects rarely end well when there's such a drastic change in the creative team.
THE GAME IS NOT CANCELED!!!!!!!!!!!!

from article:
"Sony has confirmed to IGN that The Last Guardian is still in production.
Today, GameStop terminated pre-orders for the game, informing customers that the title has been canceled by Sony. Customers with active pre-orders for the game received automated phone calls informing them that the title is no longer in production and advising them to change their reservation to a different game, but Sony has told us that this is not the case.
The status of the game has been a mystery as of late after the departure of the game's creator and executive producer.
For now, no release window has been announced for the game.
We've reached out to GameStop to find out the reason behind the cancellations and will update this story with any comment we receive."

I was going to say that too, but you know, people really seem to love those pre-order bonuses.
Woops! I was in a rush writing this and must have forgot the question mark.
And I'll agree that this is probably GS jumping the gun. I just find it weird because I've never heard of this happening in my personal life. And we all know how greedy GS is.
I preorderd this game sometime last year I think. The only reason I even preorder at GS anymore is because I have a two friends who work their and I don't mind helping them get preorders.
Edit: So I've read and GS is canceling preorders because there isn't a launch window for it. Got ya
This just in! SCEA confirmed that the game was not cancelled. Gamestop said they decided to remove it from pre-orders because there was no firm release date.
