According to the neogaf witcher 3 has been delayed until may 19th 2015.

Here is cd projects message to gamers:

    "Dear Gamers,

Ever since we started working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we knew it would be an ambitious game. We wanted, and still aim, to give you an incredible experience, an epic adventure in a vast, completely open fantasy universe.

The sheer size and complexity of The Witcher, key features of the title, have had a decisive impact on production. Now, nearing the end of our work, we see many details that need to be corrected. When we release the most important game in our studio’s history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly.

With this in mind, we took another look at current workloads and what they mean for the team. Even though everyone is working at full speed, we concluded that we need another 12 weeks, so we are shifting the release date of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to May 19th, 2015.

We owe you an apology. We set the release date too hastily. It’s a hard lesson, one to take to heart for the future. We know what we want to do to make Wild Hunt one of the best RPGs you will ever play. And we continue to work hard to achieve just that. So, we apologize and ask for your trust.

Thank you for the all support you show us on a daily basis. We truly do appreciate it. It has fueled us in our passion since the start and will continue to do so."

Hopefully this just means that the game will get polished until it shines at the release.

I'd rather it was delayed than unfinished. Hopefully FF type 0 stays on course, otherwise there will be nothing to play in the first half of the year for me.

At least they have the courage to admit that their game will be a buggy mess if it isn't given some extra love, and taking the time to ensure that it works as well as it can. More studios could follow the example tbh.

I'm not gonna sit here and pretend I'm actually thrilled about a game being delayed, but whatever, I'd definitely take a delay over another buggy mess of an open-world game.

I don't have a PS4, so cut that down to Evolve and Dying Light, neither of which I care for in the slightest.

EDIT: Oh, MKX is getting a PC release? Cool.

Good on 'em for admitting and rectifying their mistakes before release. I can't imagine the pressure game companies are under when it comes to hitting set milestones, but delivering the most optimal version of a product to your consumers must always be the highest priority.

Yup, wish many developers were like that, but it seems everyone is trying to throw games out as quickly as possible.

That kind of alleviates the pressure of finishing it before Bloodborne comes out. I still wonder with these delays, when we'll see more of Cyberpunk 2077.

This is not your first game. You are professional game developers. I don't understand how so many gamers can be saying good, or yay for delays, when in any other industry, movies, retail, energy, a delay like this costs money and heads would roll. Do you job when you say you would. That is it.

This can only be good news. Every Witcher game has been fucked on release, so if CD Projeckt thinks this game needs a few extra months, it should get a few extra months. The only bummer is that I refuse to play a Witcher game in the first month of release, this means I have to wait for June. =(

Ehh, there are still a lot of games that came out all towards the end of this year that I want to have more time to play all of them. As for the delay, it's a bummer but considering how shit 2014 has been in terms of broken ass games I rather Witcher 3 take all the time it needs in order to insure that it won't be broken

The way games this year releasing completely busted and then their respective companies basically saying "Sorry about that" after taking your money is totally disgusting and simply dishonest. I refuse to believe that the Microsofts, EAs and Ubisofts of the world don't have a QA department capable of pointing out their software's flaws. They're charging you $60 plus to buy their knowingly buggy game and then lying to you about it after the fact, throwing free DLC at you as if that solves the initial issue of paying full price for a defective product.

If I bought a shirt that had a small but noticeable tear, I don't deserve free socks or store credit, I deserve a complete refund.

If it means it won't be broken, that's good.

Unlike MS/EA/Ubisoft CD Project can't afford to release a broken game. They aren't a massive AAA developer then can just shrug off the reputation loss with a massive PR campaign for their next game.

@thehbk: I can't speak for everyone, but I'm merely being positive about a delay precisely because so many devs have shown that they have, at best, been overly optimistic about their time frames. You're right, it's not good practice and in any other industry it would be unacceptable, but at least they are being honest. That doesn't make it ok, but it's better than Ubisoft.....which just proves how far this industry has sunk.

Damn, this throws my schedule off a bit. I'm reading through the books now and planned to play through Witcher 1 & 2 again leading into 3. Now I've got a few extra months of breathing room to space things out I guess. In all seriousness I would rather they take the time they need than released a messed up game. Also, that's my birthday! Hell of a present.

Devs are getting the hint that a game ought to be finished before it ships. As much as some people just want things as early as possible, the public lynching of AC Unity (to the extent that CNN and BBC reported on it) maybe put things in perspective. Which bad press is worse, a game delay or TV news' only screenshot of your game being a bug where the body is invisible, leaving a pair of eyes and teeth.

Good for them for waiting until they can deliver a more polished product. I'm sure this will still ship with a few noticeable bugs at launch but I'd rather it didn't turn out like most titles this fall.

As long as it doesn't come out a broken, buggy mess, this is completely fine with me. There's plenty of stuff coming out before then I want to get through.
