A delightfully difficult little puzzle game.

The goal of Toki Tori is simple. You play as a fat yellow bird trying to get all the eggs in a level. What's not so simple is how you get them all without getting stuck. The catch here is that the bird is not agile at all. It can't really run fast, can't jump or climb. However, in each level it'll have certain tools at its disposal to help it accomplish the goal. You'll be able to place traps, build little bridges, place blocks, teleport specific distances, and the game eases the player into each of these tools with very simple levels to get the player started. Once the player is familiar with the tools, then the real fun begins. I have to say that I found myself amazed at some of the solutions because my mind just wasn't used to thinking in the ways the game wants you to think.

To date it has taken me roughly 30 hours to complete the game and finish all the achievements. Of course, not all of that time was spent doing something. As it is a puzzle game, a lot of the harder levels had me stumped for a good bit. In fact, to my shame and disappointment, I couldn't even beat the very last level of the game without a guide (I gave up after several hours of trying. I had the right idea but when about it the wrong way.). I think the normal levels were the most fun because some of them allowed for different methods to beat them while the harder levels seemed to have more strict solutions.

So, yeah, I really liked Toki Tori. I think it's a nice puzzle game with a very cute design and relaxing atmosphere. Definitely one of my favorites. It's also insanely cheap, especially during Steam sales.

While this cute cover hides a sinister core, it's above all a great puzzle game. 0

Some games can easily fool you into thinking they’re something else. Take Terraria for example, one might think it’s just a stylish platformer about going from point A to point B when it’s so much more than that. Toki Tori might be a cutesy, simplistic feat at first glance, but in fact it’s a pretty brutal puzzle experience. The levels are basic and the movements aren’t that fancy either. Most monsters just go right and left endlessly until something happens that ch...

Fun little distraction for an even smaller price 0

Toki Tori looked like a fun puzzle game, and then it was included in the 2011 Steam Summer Camp event where one of its achievements earned a prize ticket, so I grabbed it while on sale. It started out how a fun puzzle game should start out, showing you the basic mechanics and then adding tools one by one. It’s sort of like Lemmings but instead of having a bunch of lemmings walking to their death unless you tell them to use the tools, you have Toki Tori who doesn’t even move unless you tell him t...
