Okay, so I got my copy of Torchlight off steam, left it to download, came back later and tried to run it once it had all installed. 
 
The "Preparing to launch game" box that always comes up in Steam appeared, then disappeared quickly. Nothing happened. Tried again, nothing. Thinking this was odd, I opened up task manager and watched the processes tab. I saw the Torchlight.exe appear for a few seconds before closing itself. I decided to check out both the Steam Forums pages on it, and Runic Game's own forums. 
 
What I found was a list of glitches, error messages and non-starts longer than my arm. Turns out my problem is not as large as that of people getting errors from Windows of the exe crashing, losing save data, having to run the game in SAFEMODE or having it windowed and so on... 
 
Thankfully, they are working on a huge patch, hopefully fixing as many of these problems as possible in one go (LINK: http://forums.runicgames.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=2030) - but it annoys me that I can't even play the game yet. I started this thread on here because I haven't seen any other error threads on GB, and I was wondering: 
 
Have any of you GB users had any problems?

I did notice that the link that opens the game makes it run in safe mode by default. I thought this was weird but it has worked perfectly for me so idk.

Uhh didnt even know there was any problems with Torchlight, downloaded, installed and started playing.. at lvl 22 now :D

Their Support Subforum has over 350 threads, so I'm not alone.

I don't have any problems, apart from it crashing if alt+tabbed or minimized.

I've also downloaded Torchlight from Steam; been enjoying it with no technical problems on my Windows XP machine.

my brother played the demo and it crashed.  it was on a mac with bootcamp but i don't know if that's the problem.  
 
 other than that i didn't notice any problems.  it probably would have been a better idea just to run it in a window so if it crashes you can exit.

I have a Mac with Bootcamp, so that's not the issue. And is it possible that you could use your "Shift" key? "

Eh, I guess your post is sort of a heads up to me. 
 
I'll remember not to get this until the patch comes out.

I bougth it a couple days ago and it worked just fine
