However, the negatives far outweigh those minor positives in this case. Every piece of dialogue in this game is either inherently lame, or is the lamest possible circlejerk reference to anything associated with nerds.

Being part of a terribly voiced clip of dialogue is a much more hamfisted, lazy way to do this than including meaningful visual references. Even so, the references are way too overdone, and assumes that the target audience is coming to a game of this style to hear about every piece of geek fiction under the sun. I personally do not come for a game in the vein of Super Metroid or Castlevania post-Symphony of the Night to hear anything about Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Dungeons and Dragons or Dragon Warrior. I’ve enjoyed those properties through a means that is palatable to me in the past, and this is the furthest thing I have experienced from that.

Animation is sloppy/amateurish. No character customization. Main character looks like a tool. The would-be novel “modern character goes back to a medieval fantasy setting” is squandered by this game’s dumbfounded approach.

If you enjoy the Big Bang Theory and are somehow still have the basic intelligence required to play through a videogame, this is probably for you. If you’re looking for a fresh take on the Metroid format, do yourself a favour and look elsewhere. If there were an option to take out every piece of dialogue in the game I would probably have recommended it as a mediocre example of that; but this plot, with the lowest level of self-awareness it could possibly have, brings the rest of the game so far down with it that you would be better off staying away.
