Overview
Uno DX is a card game developed by Mitsui & Co. and published by MediaQuest for the Sega Saturn exclusively in Japan on January 29, 1998. It was later ported to the Sony PlayStation, under the name Uno, on April 2, 1998.
A successor to the Super Famicom game Super Uno and the Game Boy games Uno: Small World and Uno 2: Small World, Uno DX is an adaptation of the real-life Mattel card game Uno that features an anime aesthetic and a colorful cast of characters.
Along with standard "Free UNO" and "Partner UNO" modes, the game includes a single-player story mode (known as "Advanced UNO") set in a private high school. Players control Shunichi Uno, a hot-blooded Uno player who seeks to defeat the other members of the school's Uno Club to participate in the National High School Uno Championship.
The PS1 version was later re-released by Success (as part of their SuperLite 1500 Series line of budget games) on December 22, 1999.
Rules
The game includes certain rules that can be changed:
- Number of Human Players - Up to two players.
- Number of Overall Players - Up to six players.
- Scoring Rules - At the end of each round, the winning player either accumulate points (International Rules) or steal points from other players (Japanese Rules).
- Local Rules - Enables or disables the common house rule known as "Progressive UNO", where players receiving a Draw Two or Wild Draw Four card can stack one of theirs of the same symbol on top of it to pass it off to the next player (while adding to the penalty).
- Clear Condition - The game ends after either one player reaches the target score, or after a certain amount of rounds.
