    Overview

An unskippable cutscene is, as its name implies, a cutscene that cannot be interrupted or skipped.  Though they at times have been used for technical purposes, such as masking load times, they are implemented in some games simply in order to place more emphasis on the story.  However, this can become an issue in situations where a player may be forced to watch the same lengthy cutscene several times due to having to repeat a sequence of gameplay.

The Japanese release of Xenosaga: Episode I - Der Wille zur Macht, which is notable for its cutscenes that sometimes run for as long as half an hour, did not include the ability to skip story sequences.  However, this feature was implemented into the international release of the game.
