Gran Turismo Comes to the PlayStation 4 in Gran Turismo Sport

Is there any word on how this game will actually be structured? I.e., will it be a 'classic' Gran Turismo game? The fact that they aren't just calling it GT7 has me kind of worried.

I am still trying to figure out what this game is. Is it like Prologue? Where it was just kind of a demo before GT5?

So confused.

Very interested to see what changes will follow this change in naming.

If there is one thing that I learned from playing the Gran Turismo games, it's that the "Sport" option is not what you want.

Just letting others, who missed the announcement, know that this game will also have PlayStation VR support!

@poser: Sony has been using "For the players" as the main advertising slogan for the PS4 in UK/European markets since launch.

One thing to be said they can make car games/ videos look good. This is a must buy for me, I have had all the GT games from the start and cant wait to get my hands on a new one on the current gen. No date so I suppose I will just have to wait a bit longer. Ho hum...

Interested in knowing what this is. If it's some weird online-only spin-off game or demo like the GT Academy stuff is then meh.

I'm interested in a proper offline GT experience, but at least this could give a taste of the visuals and performance on new hardware.

This will be something Gran Turismo for us until the real GT7 comes, it's that. This will help them optimize everything netcode in a live situation and everything else.

This is e-sports where you rep a manufacturer or your country, this is raw racing (and hopefully qualifying and adjusting, tweaking your ride the way good Gran Turismo games let you).

I'll put something out there: It's going to a "hub" of sorts where Polyphony just updates with cars, tracks and new modes instead of having to wait years of the "next" Gran Turismo.

I don't thing GT Sport will be what Horizon is to Forza. It's still a track based racing sim. It just sounds like they are focusing on racing as a "sport", thus the new title. That's why the emphasis is on the racing tournaments they are holding in the game.

I doubt this will be like Horizon. You can see the tracks in the trailer, they aren't open roads.

If this means getting rid of the hundreds of moldy models from Gran Turismo 4 that keep making it into successive games then great. I prefer motorsport machines over racing my mother's old Accord.

See I'm the complete other way around. I like to be able to race cars that I can relate to. I know what it's like to drive a shitbox and I like to race around in a sportscar that I could potentially own. Modern racecars however, while very fast, have little personality to the way they drive. That being said I don't think it works to have cars from two hardware generations ago in there anymore.

From the trailer I think it's pretty clear that:

It will only be sports cars. We see historical sports cars, prototype sports cars, street legal sports cars, but only sports cars.

It will have some sort of online component where you choose a manufacturer and/or country to represent.

It shows the FiA logo, which arranges the FiA World Endurance Championships, the most prominent sports car series, which includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans, so there will some connection there.

From that I think it's fairly clear to assume that it won't be a full GT game with all the bells and whistles. Maybe it's a Prologue style game with a more clear focus.

As long as my toyota sprinter trueno gt apex is in the game...i will buy it.

Just turned 78....so disappointed as I am a huge fan of the series. I sincerely hope Sony are considering a day 1 patch to make this game playable for me

The start of this trailer actually makes me wish someone would do a racing game that focused solely on the earlier decades of racing.

A racing game that focused strictly on the 70s or 80s would be awesome. Especially with (optional) visual filters and era-appropriate soundtracks.

I'm interested to find out how this turns out, but I'm not sure I want to play a racing game without rumble triggers anymore. The Xbox One Forzas have spoiled me.

I doubt it. Watch for the DLC. I'd wager because of the manufacturer support angle they'll definitely have the standard vehicles for the lower ranks and as you progress you'd get the higher end, just like the old games.

The series has always had a Motorsport focus, this time its much clearer what that means.

Please don't tell me this is another fucking Prologue thing. I was counting on GT7 to be a system-seller for me, but I'm out if this is more "buy this demo until the actual game comes out in a few years!" bullshit. I'm not going to pay to be their beta tester and enable the proper title to be delayed further in the process. Here's hoping this is a quality spin-off for the franchise like what Forza did with the Horizon games rather than a Prologue.

Hell yeh. A more motorsportfocused GT is exactly what i want. More racing and less clutter with premium/standard cars.

This "sport" instead of "7" makes it sound like they are breaking with the old formula of "buy/collect cars, upgrade, grind to be competetive in higher leagues".... OR it could mean that (like the first GT on PS2 and the first GT on PS3) it is a "Prologue" and they didn't like the word "Prologue" any more.... OOOOR it is a prologue, but without a GT7 ever coming and instead the game will be upgraded with paid DLC to be fully fleshed out GT7 over the course of 2-3 years.

Personally I kinda hope for the first and make this into something between Project CARS and iRacing, really focused on simulating every little technical detail of a car instead of 1000 cars that are more or less just adjusted sliders for suspension, wheelbase, downforce etc.

As someone who only buys the even-numbered Gran Turismos, this change in naming convention presents a serious dilemma. Do I use numerology to determine whether it's really an even numbered one, or do I just assume it's GT7?

Also, what happens if this is just an interim release and the next release is titled "Gran Turismo 7" when it's really GT8? I mean, a paradox of that magnitude could result in a cascade of wanton renaming/incrementing across the industry.

It looks like this is sitting in the realm of "More than a prologue but not a full blown GT game". GT7 is still in the pipeline is what I understand from this article.

So yes, this is similar to a Forza Horizon for the Forza series.....which as we all know, is not a bad thing at all.

I need to see more from a trailer other than archival full motion video and slow motion pans of shiny cars. Every GT game has looked great, but the game play hasn't always been there.

So in typical GT series fashion, we got another trailer of shiny cars and Polyphony's trademark NeverClear (TM) release date vagueness? Awesome. So, maybe 2017 then? They only mentioned the beta as being next year, not the actual release. If they manage to do not only a beta but also launch the game next year, I think the universe will collapse in on itself from the implausibility of it all.

I know I'm being harsh, but for people who take so long to make these games, while Forza and other series are just made and released like it ain't no thing, this hang around until it finally launches approach is getting old.

Originally they said it was 6-66, but it didn't go over well in the marketing meeting

Rumor mongers are saying 7-77 means its GT7. but no its not.
