Here's How Civilization: Beyond Earth - Rising Tide's New Diplomacy System Will Work

I'm staying cautious about this expansion, given how tepid the main game was. But these seem like meaningful changes.

Nope! Not enough for me to buy back into this thing.

Call me when there's space travel and the title screen plays "Baba Yetu"

After the base game was such a boring non-starter, this is "get on sale" material at most, unless the word of mouth is ultra positive.

I find that Civ 5 is still the better game. Might be willing to try this DLC when the price is cheap enough though.

Although Firaxis was very clear from the start that this wasn't going to be Alpha Centauri 2 (which is a shame at any rate), Beyond Earth squandered so much potential. I'm not sure this is enough for me to give it another shot.

Wow, more DLC for what is essentially an expansion for an old ass game.

Give us fucking Civ VI firaxis!

After the third or fourth game of Beyond Earth that I had finished. I had gotten bored and uninstalled the game. I might pick up this expansion next year after it goes on sale for cheap.

I'll keep my eye on this - remember that Civ V was an okay civ until the expansions came out and then it became a great Civ game. Beyond Earth is working from a way more mediocre beginning though.

Couldn't even bring myself to try it out for free this weekend after reading some more about it.

I still really like the civ games, but I'm getting tired of their model of releasing a game and then putting out an expansion that 'fixes' all the design issues of the core game.

I refuse to pre-order this game because I got burned pretty badly on the vanilla release. I do honestly believe that they can make this game go from boring to something worthwhile though. I just don't understand why they have to release it bare bones to begin with when so much work was already done in Civ V.

The main issue with this game at the moment is that there is really no reason to play it instead of Civ V. I mean, if you really love sci-fi that much I guess its okay. But as a game it is lifeless and boring by comparison. When they fix this I'll be more than happy to play their new game.

I enjoyed a couple rounds of the first, but I can't really put my finger on what it was that kept me from wanting to replay it. As such it's hard to say what I would want an expansion to have to fix it.

What's your definition of "old"? Beyond Earth hasn't even been out a year yet. Also, this is how Firaxis has always handled their games' expansions/DLC's. Did you complain about the Civ 5 expansions the same way you are about this one?

@rustafur: They're saying that this is an expansion to Beyond Earth and that Beyond Earth was essentially an expansion to Civ V.

I was one of the few that enjoyed BE. I played a ton of Civ 5 and welcomed a new setting. It was familiar with enough changes to get a lot of hours out of it, but not nearly as many as Civ 5. There were a few tedious systems that needed to be adjusted like trade routes. I may look into this when it hits a sale, but at this point I'm done with Civ until they release something fresh.

People felt about vanilla-Civ exactly the same way they feel now about BE. The Civ games really come into their own with the first or second expansion.

BTW this is the biggest rework of the diplomacy system in Civ ever.

@mentaldisruption: Another big problem with that is that I feel the Sci-fi is really uninteresting and uninspired. All the factions are just leaders of the major continents now.
Alien life and fauna is very limited in variety,...

I feel like I would be way more into this if they made the factions just be countries with current world leaders. Like fighting putin and the russians in space would be pretty sweet.

I'm glad they're working on diplomacy, which has been the weakest feature in the Civ games IMO. But I don't think it'll be enough for me to purchase Rising Tides and play more Beyond Earth. I still have a bad taste in my mouth buying BE on day one. I'll most likely just wait a few more years for another Civ game or just go back to V if I get the itch.

I've literally played maybe four hours of Beyond Earth. Haven't been this disappointed in a purchase since Sim City, which I played equally as long.
