From the looks of it it seems like you can pause and add whatever you want to help you out in any situation. I really hope that there's a separate mode where you can play levels you created or downloaded without being allowed to add stuff. Like a time trail mode with leaderboards. That would encourage people to make challenging, super hard levels for others to enjoy.

RE all those questions about level length:

If you look at the bottom of the screen when the design interface is displayed, you can see a slider with an S for Start and a G for Goal on it that appears to display this. So it will be adjustable at the very least.

@djmoo: I believe they've confirmed each tile set has its own physics. Don't quote me on that, though.

They look spot on to me. Who's to say till we can play though?

Looking at that video, it seems like they do indeed each have their own original physics. If the cape is in the World tileset I might have to pick up a WiiU for this...

With all this good news about it, the surprise in what way they're going to mess it up gets bigger. You won't be able to save levels. You won't be able to edit a level after saving. You can only save 1 level. Saved levels use up that tile set when creating future levels. The possibilities are indeed endless.

This looks great but I'm still worried that they haven't said or shown anything yet about being able to go down pipes. It's exciting to see what they're working on so far but if you can't recreate every single Mario level then Nintendo has fucked up.

I wonder if the mechanics change when the graphics engine is changed... Like, could 8-bit Mario wall jump? Surely not.

I must have a heart of stone, because I can't see myself spending time to create levels if they can still only be transferred via flash drive.

If they can be shared via Internet, then I can't wait for the UPF with this game.

I know this isn't exactly what you meant but he could. I would be floored if they replicated the "physics" to the degree that this worked in Mario Maker though.

@quantris: Oh man, I hadn't seen that. You to have to wonder if they cleaned all of that up, or if it's going to be faithful to the original.

Either way, I wasn't feeling Mario Maker until that most recent trailer. Now I'm all about it.

I have to suspect that Nintendo is being mum about the online sharing stuff for censorship reasons. The Big N doesn't want Mario running around on a bunch of brick platforms shaped like dicks.

I'm really glad I own a WiiU these days. Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 1 and 2, Smash, and Hyrule Warriors this year. Mario Maker, Yoshi, StarFox, and Zelda next year.

This is the Mario game I've always wanted, and I wondered why it's taken this long, especially after seeing LittleBig Planet. Now that the game supports Mario 3 and World filesets, all I need to see is a Good, online sharing and rating system. This is already a day 1 purchase for me.

For my money, this game lives or dies on the sharing features. Are they robust? Is there good discoverability? I want so badly for this to be done with care, but I don't feel like Nintendo has a good track record with this sort of thing (see custom levels in the recent Smash Bros)

When they showed how you can edit what is being shot out of the cannons had me go "oooh they might actually know what they are doing here".

Neat! Hope it's good.
