    Overview

The main objective of Wayward is to survive in a randomly-generated desert island while searching for treasure. It's main inspirations are Minecraft, Ultima Online and Dwarf Fortress.

Development began by Vaughn "Drathax" Royko. It initially began as browser-based game but has since moved to Early Access on Steam by means of Steam Greenlight.

Wayward Versions Beta 2.0 and further are available on Steam. Wayward Beta 1.9.9 is available for free on Browser.

    Graphics and Music

Wayward has a 16-bit art style as designed by Dusty "Goaticide" Melling.

Wayward has chiptune music reminiscent of the 16-bit era, composed by Austin Dhillon.

    Gameplay

Gameplay revolves around the player searching for treasure while simultaneously trying to survive by doing activities like:

    • Finding and cooking food
    • Crafting
    • Finding or making potable water
    • Building a shelter
    • Keeping health and stamina in check
    • Fighting monsters
    • Cave diving and mining for materials

    Crafting

Crafting follows a system where a creatable object is revealed when it's one of it's ingredients is collected.

Objects can then be crafted by clicking on them. The quality and durability of the product of crafting is determined by the durability and quality of materials used as well as the random chance for the item to receive a special effect.

    Player Advancement - Skills

Almost every ability in Wayward has a corresponding stat which increases with use (Called Skill) . The total increase in this stat (Known as Talent) determines the progression of the player. This can cause higher level monsters to appear.

    List of Skills:

Lumberjacking, Mining, Cooking, Camping, Tinkering, Tactics, Parrying, Mycology, Botany, Swimming, Throwing, Fletching and Rangedcraft, Woodworking, Blacksmithing, Stonecrafting, Tailoring, Leatherworking, Fishing, Archery, Alchemy, Clay Throwing, Glass Blowing, Lockpicking, Cartography, Anatomy.

Note: The Devs have recently stated that they are working on an overhaul of the Skills System, however, up to this point nothing is set in stone.

    Mods

Wayward has mod support. Mods can be installed either through Steam Workshop or by putting the mod directly in the game files.

    Fun Facts

Despite the different hairstyles, the main character of Wayward is genderless.
