    Overview

Hatoful Boyfriend: Holiday Star is a sequel to the original Hatoful Boyfriend, and was originally released in 2011. Holiday Star takes a departure from the dating simulator style of the original Hatoful Boyfriend, and instead focuses on being a straight-forward visual novel, comprised of several vignettes set in the Hatoful universe, with a strong focus on the holiday season.

    Plot

As this game is comprised of small vignettes, the individual plot-lines have mostly no connection with one another, save for having the same general set of characters.

The first of these is "The Christmas Thieves Attack!", in which two bird-like creations made by Shuu attempt to ruin Christmas for their own amusement.

The second vignette made available is "Fallen Chronicles - Absolute Zero", which introduces a new character, Nishikikouji Tohri. Nishikikouji wishes to get revenge on his former rival, Shuu. As such, he designs a weapon capable of harnessing Anghel's imagination, with the intent of shaping the world in his own image.

The last two main vignettes, entitled "The Day The Night Slept" and "The Day The Night Slept (After)" tell an inter-connected story of a new character, The King. In it, the students of Saint Pigeonations' get together one night to watch a total lunar eclipse, but as the eclipse begins everyone present falls asleep, and enter a shared dream of a town called the Holiday Star, nestled away on a distant star in space. While there, they meet the town's leader, who refers to himself only as The King, and seems to have a bitter hatred of Kazuaki. When the students find themselves unable to wake up, they have to confront The King and find out more about the relationship between The King and Kazuaki.

There is also a series of short vignettes that unlock as the player progresses through each of the previous four, including one in which the protagonist accompanies a bird of their choice on a visit to a Shinto shrine, noteworthy for being the only time in the series the player can choose to view humanized portraits of each bird instead of their regular forms.
