    Overview

Champion Wrestler is a belt-scrolling pro wrestling game developed and released by Taito for arcades in 1989. It was later ported to the PC Engine exclusively in Japan on December 14, 1990, which was digitally re-released on the Wii Virtual Console on January 20, 2009.

Players can choose between eight different pro wrestlers and fight others in the ring. To fight effectively, they need to rapidly tap left and right on the gamepad to build the wrestler's power before launching their next move. To win, the player simply has to pin their opponent when their "life" is low. The game also includes the option for tag-team wrestling.

The PC Engine version of the game includes support for four-player multiplayer with a multi-tap accessory, including both traditional tag-team and tornado tag-team (in which all players fight at once).

It later received a Japan-exclusive sequel for the Sony PlayStation in 1996, titled Champion Wrestler: Jikkyou Raibu.
