It's the summer of 1988, and your mom rented the game "Duck Season" for you. As you binge through the game, though, it's apparent that something is unusual about it.

    Overview

Duck Season is a horror-themed first-person shooter developed and digitally published by Stress Level Zero for the PC on September 14, 2017. While the original game is VR-only, the game received an alternate non-VR version (titled Duck Season PC) on June 17, 2019.

The second VR game from the studio (after Hover Junkers), Duck Season puts players in the role of a young boy in his living room in the summer of 1988. His mother rented a game for the boy's Kingbit Entertainment System, titled "Duck Season" (a nod to the 1984 light-gun game Duck Hunt). As the boy plays through the game throughout the day, it's apparent that something is unusual about the game's cartridge, with the game taking on a horror twist.

The game alternates between two phases: one in the living room and one "inside the television" while playing the "Duck Season" game. While in the living room, players can interact with the environment around them (including playing videotapes in the television's VCR and putting in other cartridges for bonus mini-games). In the "Duck Season" game itself, shown in hyper-realism (likely due to the boy's imagination), players control a hunter armed with a hunting shotgun as they shoot waves of ducks (similar to the game it's based on).

Depending on the player's actions, the game has seven unique endings.
