The father of shooters..in YOUR pocket !

I´ve been listening to John Carmacks speeches about his iPhone projects alot and today I finally got around to buying Wolfenstein 3D for my iPod Touch. It was on sale and I got it for a mere dollar or so. That is absolutely nothing for this great shooter classic in my pocket at all times.
The game brags in the description about how John Carmack himself thought out the controls for the game carefully. The controls themselves are highly customizable. Theres basicly a small virtual d-pad for turning, one virtual d-pad for strafing and a button on screen for shooting. These can be moved around all over the screen aswell as totally removed if you for some reason dont want to strafe at all.
It takes some getting used to and you end up fumbling around alot more compared to a real d-pad. This is of course natural seeing as you dont have anything physical to actually steer with. But as far as controlling first person iPhone games goes this is a big step in the right direction. Letting you place your thumbs as you see fit and not making it more complicated than it needs to be. When I´ve played some more of it I have no doubt that i´ll grow into the controls.
The game itself is still totally Wolf 3D but cleaned up ALOT. Graphics are improved miles over the original, looking very smooth. The GUI has been reworked to fit the screen better and the gameplay itself still hold up if you´re a fan of the game originally. As with many old games they require a certain amount of nostalgia to work. Wold 3D is a very good example of this.
Personally Wolf 3D holds a big spot in my gaming heart and my admiration for John Carmack and ID software goes a long way to making this game awesome for me. I´ve also listened to Carmack enough to get really intrigued by his iPhone projects. Hopefully Wolf will do well and lead to us getting Commander Keen, Doom and Quake on there aswell.
Its great to see a classic like Wolf 3D live on in peoples pocket and they´ve made a great job brushing it up to look good. And for the price I got it for its a steal !
