This doesn't sound insane at all. It's just what a head of marketing would say about a big company press conference. If he -didn't- say they were going to knock it out of the park and crush their competitor, then I'd be worried. But this is the kind of rhetoric we've heard from Sony and Microsoft for years. This isn't insane or surprising in the least.

There is a difference between confidence and bravado. This seems to fall into the latter category. While I don't see it as "insane", it is just another sign of their familiar arrogance. Most of the time, these types of things come back and bite you in the ass. The bigger the build up, the harder the fall.

The article says "Let's kill Sony at E3" but hey maybe it's not the best idea to be reporting on an article parsed through Google Translate.

Unless Sony pulls a "599 US dollars/giant enemy crab", at the very least I expect Sony to be OK in their press conference. Even if Microsoft's conference is better, then so what it, it's better. You're only killing them if you're just lapping the fuck out of them.

If Craig Davidson knows that Call of Duty: Ghosts, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, Fallout 4/Skyrim 2, all future Final Fantasy games, and all future sports games (ALL OF THEM) are suddenly Xbox One exclusives, then will I think Mr. Davidson has the right to be sure that Microsoft will kill Sony at E3.

I would normally say never trust google translate, but my four years of high school Spanish, five years ago, tells me that "Vamos a matar..." does roughly(?) translate to "We are going to kill...".

I wouldn't be so quick to jump and confirm that Davidson did, in fact, say "kill". Remember that this is a translation of a Spanish article, and it wouldn't be the first time that our so-called "professional gaming press" embellishes things to get some more page hits. His "quotes" don't look like actual quotes, but rather like his own version of what Davidson said. I searched for the context of the interview and could not find any other source for it, besides what this IGN Spain guy claims. The only thing I could find was the full text of another interview, posted the same day by the Sydney Morning Herald. No mention of "killing Sony" is made in that interview. It's, at least, odd that no other gaming outlet picked up such inflammatory statement if Davidson did, indeed, say it. Maybe he said something like "slay the competition" and this guy translated it as "kill"? Who knows. Until I see a reputable international source, I'm leaning to seeing this as typical Spanish picaresque.

Mind you. I'm not defending Microsoft, though if I had to choose, I'd pick them over Sony any day... I just don't like the Spanish gaming press :P

Edit: Just for clarity's sake: I am Spanish, I speak Spanish natively (duh), and the article does say "matar" (kill). I'm just questioning whether the quote is factual or the journalist's own interpretation of Davidson's words.

I dunno, I wrote a blog post on what I thought about the reveal and one thing I thought was that if they were really sure they had a stacked E3 then the way they did the reveal makes a tonne of sense. Only target the masses, only show things non gamers would want to buy a console for and televise it to hit that crowd. Run the risk of alienating the hardcore fan base, but then win them back a few weeks later with a jaw dropping E3 filled with nothing but games. It's sort of what they've been hinting at the whole time now.

Let's see if they can pull it off.

I generally am neutral when it comes to "console wars", but when companies behave like MS has recently they deserve to get a smack in the mouth so that they will show some sense next time around.

Microsoft have always been pretty bullish about the games they have wrapped up. They have lots of cash tom tie up exclusives so I fully expect them to come up with some pretty good stuff. Will it be enough, who knows, but I don't see what is wrong with one of their employees being enthusiastic - what else would you expect?
