THIS XBO (ex-bee-oh) is a serious useage case. We can all laugh at Xbone, but XBO is something you can say/write to a gamer, on a forum or in a tweet too be understood.

They're taking these X Boxes' names pretty seriously. The real question is whether the One (or "X" as I like to call it) will be an Xsuccess or Xfailure.

I love the idea of the voice control stubbornly refusing to do anything unless you address it by its full name. If you say 'Xbone, go to TV' it just red rings.

Surely this is aimed at content providers releasing info about their xbox related products. Not the public. I'm sure every product has something similar. Buzzkill much I know! It's still 'the new xbox' in my head.

Those are pretty clearly guidelines for creating print and web advertisements. I would think that there are similar format and content bibles for every major brand in existence.

If the name of your console is so ill conceived that you need complicated rules to govern how people refer to it, then maybe you should have thought it through a little more.

Also, maybe you shouldn't have put "Xbox" on the front of the console if people aren't supposed to refer to it as simply "Xbox". Talk about confusing.

Correct. Every console has had this from Atari onward. Most big companies have people whose job it is to make sure their games comply with all of these types of requirements. Next time you beat a game look for the people credited as Compliance Testers or certification specialists or some similar term. Those are the guys whose job it is to make sure things like this meet the requirements set down by each console manufacturer. Some other requirements likely involve font usage, logo locations and sizes, and the use of images of the box and controllers especially when explaining how they are to be used in the game. There are hundreds of these little things that every developer has to meet. It's one of the reasons a lot of indie devs don't even bother with a console version even if they could afford the license. The effort involved in making sure you meet all the requirements is just too much.
