So Brad's continuing obsession with Dota and the International and Jeff's comments about it recently reminded me of a tweet he made last year:
"So far high-level Dota looks a lot like soccer: A bunch of totally intense Europeans and I have no idea what's happening."
I recently found a really good video that does a nice job of explaining some aspects of why people who find football interesting find it interesting to watch, specifically targeted at people who find it boring to watch. It's grossly over simplified but that's kind of the point. With all this International kerfuffle going on at the moment, I'm kind of interested to watch it but have no idea how to actually parse what I'm seeing in terms of "this is good" and "this is bad". Is there a video along these lines that does a job of explaining Dota?
