Would you prefer more or less gravel?
Would you prefer more or less gravel?
An inFormal poll of the office reveals that I was apparently in a distinct minority in my appreciation of Cole McGrath's gravelly tones in the excellent InFamous, the PS3-exclusive open-world electric superhero romp from earlier this year.

Apparently even Sony itself disagrees with me, as word from voice actor David Sullivan's Twitter indicates he's auditioned for the role of Cole, which is apparently being recast in the inevitable sequel. Here's the original tweet, as reported earlier today by G4.

"First voiceover/motion capture audition today for a video game," said actor David Sullivan over Twitter this morning. "Re-casting of Cole in the sequel of Infamous. 'I'll melt your face.' e.g"

However, Sullivan has since deleted the offending tweet and replaced it with a slightly more equivocal version. Of course, the fact that someone got uppity enough to make him remove his comment just validates the whole affair further.

Had a very cool audition today for role in a very famous video game that I'm not allowed to talk about.

With apologies to Sucker Punch, Uncharted 2 has just unseated InFamous as my favorite PS3 game this year, but I'm still very much looking forward to the further adventures of Cole McGrath, whatever he sounds like next time around. Did anybody else like that character? Who's ready for more InFamous around here?

Well, I only played the demo of Infamous... but anyway I'd like a less gravelly voice. I think the type of voice is getting played out. Maybe it should be gravelly when you're leaning toward the evil side... but that's just my opinion.

I found Infamous to be pretty buggy and had weird animations for the characters and almost felt unfinished, but other then that it was a pretty good game and am looking forward to the second one.

Cole was so generic. "Hi I'm the wannabe tough superhero who has normal issues with females, just like you."

This guyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
Even though I have yet to play/buy the first one, I am of course still stoked for a second.
I played the demo and intend to get the game at some point, it rocks.

dug the origianl. still need to finish it. will dig the sequal. i don't really think voice acting is enough to COMPLETELY break a game for me, so i'll be fine with whomever they choose.

Cole's voice was so unfitting in the first game.  Hey guys check it out - I'm a bike messenger who's suddenly developed superpowers.  Listen in awe as I TALK LIKE BATMAN AND BE ALL IMPOSING AND SCARY AND SHIT!!!

But then again, the story in that game was such garbage that it doesn't really matter.  inFAMOUS did a lot right, but story and interesting characters weren't either of them.

i love how all the great developers from the ps2 are bringing their new IP to the next gen and making fucking unbelievable shit-your-pants games =]
it gives me a sense of nostalgia and happiness =D

I felt his voice perfect for the bad karma route, however it didn't feel right for good karma Cole. It might be a bit much, but having two similar sounding VAs to do Cole depending on his route would be interesting. At the very least a difference in tone for one VA.

Who wants to bet Nolan North gets the job?
buzz_killington on Oct. 13, 2009

Thank god, I hated the Christian Bale wannabe voice acting.

Only if he's guaranteed a role in Resistance 3.  Then the trifecta will be complete!

That  would be kind of difficult considering Sony owns the franchise.

The charater, the story, and the game were cool, but I didn't care too much about the voice acting.  It was average.
