    DS HOW TO GUIDE

How to turn your DS into a fully functioning PDA
    Sort your life out

    (from pocket gamer)
Why go out and buy an expensive PDA when the homebrew scene on the DS can provide you all that functionality and more?

What's more, it's all free and readily available for your trusty gaming handheld! Follow the simple steps below and you'll soon be using your DS to record meetings, notes, 'to do' lists and even engage in a bit of web browsing.

    Here's how:

    Download files
The first step is to download the files you'll need. If you are tidy little bod you may want to collect them together in a folder on your PC.

You need to download the following:

    DS Organise: DSOrganize_2_9_NeoFlash.zip from here
    - DLDI File System Patcher Software: dlditool-win32-gui.zip from
    here
    - DLDI Driver File: from
    here

    Unzip the DS Organise software
Once downloaded, the next step is to unzip the
DS Organise software into a folder on your PC.

    1. Unzip the DSOrganize_2_9_NeoFlash.zip file that you downloaded during Step 01.
    2. Keep the folder to hand on your desktop or similar location.

    Patch DS Organise software
DS Organise comes ready patched for a variety of homebrew cards. If you have an older card or are having problems running the application, you may need to perform a patch as follows:

    1. Extract the dlditool-win32-gui.zip Patcher software to a folder on your PC.
    2. Run the dlditool32.exe program.
    3. Click the DLDI File button and browse to the location of the DLDI driver file you downloaded during Step 01. Ensure you have downloaded the DLDI driver file for your particular homebrew card from the list provided
    here.
    4. Click the Binaries button, browse to the folder on your desktop and select the DSOrganise.nds file.
    5. You can now copy the DSOrganise.nds file and the DSOrganise folder to the root folder of your homebrew card.
    - If you have a SuperCard you should use the DSOrganise.sc.nds
    - If you have a GBA slot style homebrew card such as an EZ-Cart 2 you should use the DSOrganise.ds.gba

    Start DS Organise
You can now fire up the
    DS Organise software.

    1. Remove your homebrew card or memory stick from your PC.
    2. Insert your homebrew card into your DS.
    3. Turn on the DS power and run the appropriate DSOrganise.nds file.
    4. The software will take a moment to load.

    Configure DS Organise
    Before you start using
DS Organise, you should take a moment to get it set up to suit your requirements.

    1. Tap the Configuration button or press A after highlighting it with the D-pad.
    2. Language: Currently only English is supported.
    3. Start-up Screen: Select which application you want to open on start-up. You should choose the application that is going to get the most use in
    DS Organise.
    4. Time Format: Select between 12- or 24-hour format.
    5. Name Format: Specify how to record names.
    6. Date Format: Specify whether you want US dates that start with the month, or UK dates that start with the day.
    7. Icon Set: Select other icon sets when you have them installed.

    Start getting organised
You can now enjoy the wide range of productivity applications included in the package:

    1. Calendar: Long-term planning tool.
    2. Day Planner: Plan your day's activities.
    3. Address Book: Store all those important addresses.
    4. To do List: Keep a scratch pad of important items.
    5. Scribble Pad: Draw quick sketches and pictures.
    6. File Browser: View the files on your homebrew cart.
    7. Calculator: What it says on the tin.
    8. IRC: Use you wi-fi connection to jump into some Internet Relay Chat.
    9. Homebrew Database: Browse a burgeoning list of homebrew software.
    10. Web Browser: Browse the web.

    Further information can be found
    here.

This all sounds very interesting.  I believe it is all very legal.  So how does this look as a homebrew application?

I am tempted to give this a shot.  Might be difficult for a man of my lack of talents, but what the hell :-)

Anyone who has it or tries it, give us some feedback.

Actually, I have never done a mod before.  I want to, but I always assume they are beyond my technical abilities.  This one looks quite cool.  I use a PDA for work, but it is HUGE (part of a work device) and on the DS, it might be good for my daughters as well.

Come on.  There must be someone with an interest in a homebrew application like this.

Actually my husband has a very nice PDA which he shares. So i guess this would be pretty pointless to me.

I'm guessing that applies to many, but still, combining it with my favourite game console is a nice idea.

I assume so.  No reason to believe otherwise.

Sounds cool. But I have a talent for breaking things when I attempt these sort of shenanigans.

Getting your DS DSOrganized is a matter of seconds. But DSorganize is a pretty non-user friendly application to be honest. Great work, but.. I never found it comfortable to use.

That's my problem as well.  I tend to leave things well enough alone.

How long ago did you load it up?  I'm curious to know how uncomfortable.

Why would anyone need/want a PDA in this day and age? Don't modern cel phones do all that stuff?

A lot of mobile phones do it, yeah, but it is more a convenience if you use your DS a lot.  If it's free, it's not a problem even if you end up not using it.

How long did it take you to set up this?  Is there any chance a moron could screw anything up trying to do it?

There's absolutely no way of screwing up with DSorganize, oldschool. In fact, the DLDI-patching you went on length to explaining isn't necessary with most flashcards, including the still most-popular R4. You put the .nds file on your SD card and the organize-directory in the root, boot the thing up, done. And even if you messed something up, it doesn't have any effect on the DS or the card. It just won't work then.

It's just a regular. nds application. It takes thirty seconds to set up.

Yes and yes. You don't make any changes. DSorganize is launched just like regular DS roms.
