Got home all pumped to sink my teeth into Heavy Rain, only to find that my PS3 has decided that making use of electicity just isn't cool anymore.  No amount of switch flicking and cord swapping can solve the issue, dont even get a stand by LED.  Damn thing's out of warrenty to... at least everytime my Xbox's exploded it was free.  Also my Uncharted 2 disk is now trapped inside, according to Sony the replacement disk wont come until after the repaired unit comes back to....

$250 down the drain... le sigh.

    I am so sorry. :(

I am scared for mine, as it is a 60 GB one. I don't want to lose my backwards-compatibility. It has been good to me so far though.

any reason why? $250 is pretty steep if that's what you're paying for out of warranty repair, for $50 more you could just get a slim, plus you have to wait for them to ship you a replacement disc?

the same thing happened to me in december, it takes literally like 2 minutes to do on your own once you have the replacement.

@onimonkii:   RRP for a PS3 slim in Australia is $499 so the repair is half that cost.  That and I dunno, guess I couldnt be assed messing around inside.  I'm sure it's a quick job and all but i really don't feel like pulling it apart.

Yeah definitely go with the self repair option. Sending em off to Sony costs way too much.

My Heavy Rain should be delivered today. My 60GB unit died before Christmas also, came home and it wouldn't play any BluRay discs and then started generating graphics corruption blocks on screen, then stopped working altogether and wouldn't turn on. Now own a slim but needless to say i wasn't happy.

Mine just stopped reading discs :(, reformatting it now as that might work.  But with the repair costs i'd probably just buy a slim, even though i cant get the saves i  backed onto  my sd card..without taking my ps3 to a friends house.

Could just sell the PS3 on ebay and buy a new slim.  Although you still have to get the disc out.

My NES works but l have to repeatedly reinsert cartridges to get them to work, Genesis stopped working after my nephew poured coke into the damn thing, ps1 still works but needs to be flipped upside down, 1st ps2 is dead, 2nd one is still going strong, ps3 is still going strong, Wii is still going strong.
