I WANNA BE A TIME LORD!

Posted by utamaru

Been waiting for this shit. Better be crazy!

Posted by Mistzero

i remember vinny talking about this game on the podcast and was having hard time explaining it, so this should be interesting to watch and see for myself.

Posted by KingPossum

Pathfinding seems to be a deal breaker for me. Other than that this game looks fun and I'll probably wait for a sale or a proper patch before picking this up.

Posted by SynAzrael

There's a really interesting interview on aigamedev.com about the artificial intelligence employed for this game. Its running some pretty intense algorhythms.

Glad they ended up Quick Looking this after all.

Am I the only one that finds a Quick Look on a game about time manipulation being over an hour long to be pretty funny?

Posted by tourgen

Thank you for QLing this game. I want to get into it just to play around with it myself. It's a cool concept. From what I can tell it's like a group of undo/redo buffers each with a rolling 5 minute window? Anyway probably wrong but I can't wait to mess with it.

Posted by Rolyatkcinmai

Watched this live. It was some funny shit.

Posted by Awcko

It's a damn shame the underlying game mechanics aren't polished enough to support the crazy time mechanic these nutjobs have crafted. I'd love to play a really great game with the timewave stuff.

Posted by beeerl

According to their site, it looks like they just released a patch tonight that's improving pathfinding.

Also, check out Shadowfury333's channel on youtube. Man, multiplayer is crazy.

Oh stoked Vinny ended up pushing through. Between this, his endless optimism, and apparent OCD in RPG gaming he's rapidly moving up my completely meaningless, but not arbitrary rankings!

EDIT - relative rookie here, a chat is mentioned in this quick look, is that for subscribers?

What happened to the funny header? Unfunny headers make me sad.

Posted by wafflez

Marty, we have to go back... back to the... present?

Posted by EmoMcGee

Please, not again!

Posted by Levio

This looks so awesome. The time waves seem to get really complicated.

Posted by PatVB

I can't believe Vinny finally figured out how to play this game. I can't wait to watch it!

Final Cut Pro: Red Alert

OH DEAR GOD I'LL BUY IT! I'LL BUY DEAD ISLAND! I swear! Just take off the damned ad, PLEASE! PLEASE!

This looks awesome! I pretty much grokked the game from this quicklook and as far as I can tell, it's an RTS that borrows Braid's time mechanic and changes in the past propagate forward. Outnumbered in a battle? Go back in time and make/move units to the location of the future battle. You can do recon and "waste" a lot of units doing so, then go back in time and cancel those commands while still knowing what units are where. Sounds really interesting, though I'll wait a bit until it patches up and maybe lowers in price, but this looks really, really cool.

Haha, what bugs me is the "at first, all was quiet". Who says "all was quiet" except cryptic wizards in fantasy novels?

Nah, they streamed it live and unscheduled earlier today.

The QL was broadcast live, with a chat alongside it.

Posted by tumes

@Keithcrash: Haven't watched the QL yet, so I'm assuming you're talking about an ad on the site... Why not just buy a subscription, it's cheaper than Dead Island unless it's already hit the discount bin?

I just...

I can't...

I...

Hmm, quick looks sure seem to be getting less and less quick these days :P Not that I'm complaining =D

It's first game made in 4D!

This game looks nuts.

I would love to have Patrick talk to someone that made this game. It feels like it might not be designed super well but also maybe it's so confusing because of the human equation, we're bad at thinking about some kind of non-linear time? I don't know. I don't want to play this but it all feels super interesting on some higher level above simply gaming.

Posted by Sarumarine

So, this is how you get Infinite Vinny.

But man what a crazy awesome game. I did like the whole "travel back in time, make units, then travel forward to have them all show up at one time." It seems a little too layered for me to get into, but like the guys were saying about concept games like Narbacular Drop and such, I'm glad it exists. I'm trying to figure out how the hell multiplayer would work with all that time travel going on.

Posted by claudius

oh my god. what

Posted by EchoEcho

To be fair to the game, a lot of the issues with the mechs in the latter half of the video were probably a result of Vinny fiddling with the timeline over and over again. Also, he didn't seem to want to wait for his units to actually group together before sending them up to fight the tank.

Game looks pretty cool, and I honestly don't find the time mechanics to be all that complicated to wrap my head around. Would be nice if there were some higher production values on it, though.

Posted by Getz

Conceptually, this game is really neat. Mechanically, it looks like ass. Production values, ass. Story, ass. I can't say I'd pay money for this, but I gotta respect the balls on the developers.

Sometimes, they decide to live stream a quick look. When they do, go to giantbomb.com/chat and there is going to a stream with a chat there. Usually the live stream is going to be promoted on the front page, but the way I find out about these spontaneous live streams is usually through Twitter.

Posted by CharlesSurge

Seems maybe Vinny misunderstood a few mechanics, also undid some of his efforts.

With time-travel, how relevant is war really? What weight do your actions have in this constantly fucked up attempt to unfuck the forever fuckable? Or do you lose when you start giving a fuck?

Posted by buzz_clik

Without hitting play, Im pretty sure this couldn't live up to the way Vinny described it.

@huser: The chat was watching the video from the past.
