Oh come on. It's a proven series that sells to people no matter what. If anything, putting pre-orders up this early might encourage the publisher to let the game do some more interesting things as it's going to sell gangbusters anyway. Besides, Call of Duty fans want to be able to pre-order it anyway.

Pretty silly thing to say because of a 30 second trailer that had pretty much nothing to do with the actual game. If it ends up being as interesting and enjoyable as Black Ops 2, then I hope not. Maybe that game will encourage Activision to let them try more interesting things considering how well received the handling of BlOps 2's campaign was.

@redroach: It wasn't that refreshing. A lot of the game played like CoD 2 and almost felt like a reskinned version of it. You had the stupid grenade-bottle-clinking sound return and it played relatively the same. The did good things like adding kill streaks and that but it's not like the broke the mould or anything. The story seemed far too serious for the style of gameplay that's in the game. Then they went over the top later on, and that's why I like MW2 so much.

Pfft. I liked Call of Duty when it was called Wolfenstein 3D.

It's only really dumb in the sense that they made an announcement trailer for an announcement trailer, basically. If you think this means anything to the game, you're taking this way too seriously. This is just a measure to ensure CoD fans tune in to the actual reveal of the game, which is a fair practice, they want people to know when they are really showing things off.

I thought it was a little cheesy, but kind of an interesting spin on the usual marketing of the series. If it suggests a more down to earth tone that could be neat. Obviously the chances of that are practically 0 but eh. At least now we know for a fact that this will be running on PS4 and The Xbox.

This would only be interesting if all the characters they showed in the trailer were actually in the game. Somehow I doubt that though.And yeah, the narrator totally sounds like Adam West.

I'm glad that some devs are actually putting effort into making their games unique and pushing the boundaries of what a videogame can be. I'm so sick of all of the big devs just making the same soulless lowest common denominator shit like Journey and Hotline Miami over and over again. Infinity Ward are one of the few devs that actually take their time with a game. New Call of Duty games may not come out very often, but when they do you know that you're in for something truly special. I mean, what other developer would have the guts to make not only a first-person shooter, but a modern MILITARY first-person shooter. That's practically unheard of now that everyone just seems to want to squeeze out yet another turn-based strategy game to get some of that UFO Defense money. The Call of Duty franchise is definitive proof that videogames can be works of art.

All I was thinking was Call of Duty: Deadliest Warrior.

I hope the protagonist in this game just walks around Naked and Blindfolded thinking if I can't see them, they can't see me.

Can we stop using that word, especially when we barely have a cohesive definition of it? I'm not going to continue with that line of thought because fuck it, but nevertheless, it's not that outrageous a thought. The first Call of Duty was a pretty refreshing game back in the day. It had rather excellent set pieces; very good sound design; and had tons of friendly AI with you, something that war FPSes (looking at you, Medal of Honor) often did not, opting instead for the 'lone wolf' thing.

It also had a fucking health meter. A health meter. You remember those, right? CoD2 came along later, and while it was still a good game, it popularized regenerative health, something that still plagues the genre to this day.

CoD4 was fine, better than 3, and I guess it was pretty novel to get the franchise out of WWII at the time and was the last actual innovation the series has had since. It also marked where the patriotism and war glorification entered the modern era, which is pretty discomfiting indeed.

I was hoping it was, from the title. But I have a feeling it won't be. :(

The aesthetic here is cool and all, but I can't take this voice actor any more seriously than the guy who voiced the narrator in the radio commercials for Nyte Blayde in SR3. At this point I can't even tell whether or not that's intentional, or if I'm just crazy.

Nice trailer, if they bring back the level of Spec Ops that MW2 had I might be onboard, multiplayer has lost me in these games, the auto aim has got out of hand, the sniper "quick scopes" ruined the game.

If this is the biggest thing Microsoft has to show at their next-gen announcement, then I'll be pretty underwhelmed.

So now CoD is going the way of Ghost Recon? That's what the ghosts are in reference to I'd assume. I am perfectly alright with a Zero Dark Thirty / Acts of Valor type take on all of this for once. Covert play could be totally awesome.

Considering how over the top and ridiculous the last Modern Warfare games were I'm curious to see if they actually are going to narrow down the scope and tell a more intimate story. This definitely has me more interested then Modern Warfare 4 would. I'll wait till I see an actual gameplay trailer though.
