It's improved quite a bit since launch, so I may start playing it again if the f2p model isn't shit.
Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures

Age of Conan is a massively multiplayer online role playing game set in the Conan lore.
Going F2P, will you try it again?
I played few a few months at launch might give it another look liked the combat and general M rating it went for.
@JJOR64 said:Sadly, there are a lot of people that don't do that.@CL60: You put your topic in the AoC board. No one is going to read it. :P As for trying it, yes, I will.Well I just always assume everybody uses the forums the way I do, and just clicks the forum button and sees all of the recent threads :P
I think you get all of the leveling zones except the expansion. But you don't get some of the dungeons and raids unless you buy them. At least according to this chart. It says full access to AoC: HA@CL60: i may do if its not like LOTRO where you need to pay to have access to pretty much everything.

Well I'm a huge Conan and pulp fiction fan.
Does it capture that feel? How's the combat? I might hop on in June once I build my new PC.
Well I'm a huge Conan and pulp fiction fan. Does it capture that feel? How's the combat? I might hop on in June once I build my new PC.The combat in my opinion was one of the strong points of the game at launch. You use the arrows to attack in different directions. As you level you get more directions to attack and block in, and there are executions when killing enemies sometimes.
Played it, got to level 20, and stopped...like about 90% of everyone else. That was a couple or more years ago, though. Exploring around at 20 was actually pretty neat, but when you realize just how lost you are, and how there's nothing really helping you get your barrings, you start to get really frustrated, which is what happened to me. Also, what's up with those bandits that just spawn out of thin air at random while you're traveling? Couldn't tell if that was a feature or a glitch. Have these issues been addressed since then?
Considering it was one of the MMOs I enjoyed my time in most (if not the MMO), I definitely will be at some point. In fact, the combat in this one is probably the only MMO combat I really really enjoyed, and never really even felt the grind because I was actually having fun. It just felt much more involving and active than most other MMOs. I don't know how the character slots thing will work out for me since I did have a paid account for a while, and I already have the character limit reached. Hope I can still play my 74 Dark Templar, at least.
Kind of silly of them not including Vistrix in the free raids. T1 should be free.
I'm not 100% on this, but I think if you've paid before the limit on the classes you can play doesn't exist, and you can pick 2 of your characters to be available, while the others will still be there in the locked slots, and yeah, I agree, all of T1 should be free.Considering it was one of the MMOs I enjoyed my time in most (if not the MMO), I definitely will be at some point. I played it in late 2008. I stopped playing after I ran out of quests in Stygia (which was the home of my character). I really liked the Egypt-ish setting and when I ran out of quests I noticed that the rest of the world looked like any other medieval fantasy game. Have they added new content to the existing zones since 2008 or is all the new content added in new zones?
Is demonologist one of the 4 free classes? Because my character is a demonologist and I don't want to start with a new character if I go back.
I think they added a bunch of new content in all of the zones, and another zone or 2 or something, not 100% sure, and if you were a subscriber before the class restriction doesn't exist, you just pick 2 of your characters.I played it in late 2008. I don't like how they're implementing F2P. It's either you don't pay anything and pretty much get a demo version of the game OR you subscribe--there's no middle ground. I'd rather it be like LotRO where you can be F2P but can buy the high end content piecemeal.
Basically, I decided years ago to never again purchase a monthly sub for an MMO. And the F2P in this game just doesn't have enough.

From what I heard, you can purchase dungeons, but the extra bank stuff, faster mounts, the other classes was all subscribe or nothing. That's what I read when they first announced it way back when, though, and it might have changed. I'll take a look at their site and see for sure.@Nocall said:

Edit: I checked out the website's FAQ and you look right--it might be very similar to LotRO (which means I definitely will check it out). Their language on buying things other than dungeons is very non-committal, though, which might just be because it's not finalized. I really don't want to play any of their four listed free classes, though, and I hope you can buy the others (really want bear shaman) but it doesn't say anything like that. Hopefully that's just the "not finalized" thing again.
Played the first 3 months it was out. I liked it, but, as everyone is saying, it was a ghost town once you got out of the newbie zone (ironically the most fun I had was in that zone). I'd be willing to pick it up again to see what's been improved in the last 3 years.
Started out as a dark templar when I got it, and it was so underpowered and disappointing and then the rangers were way way way overpowered in PvP.
I absolutely will, just got back into it after I found the expansion for $15 at gamestop, so with my free month I am re-introducing myself to the mechanics and areas right now.
I plan to unsub as soon as the free month is over, and then come back when it is free to play :) I like the game, but I'm a casual MMO'er at best, I don't need the "premium content" or raids that give the best equipment.....
All my characters are on Tyranny PVP.
I played this again a few weeks ago. Still doesn't appeal to me in any way. Were there any women, and did you or did you not hear their lamentations?
I installed it today and messed around with it for half an hour or so (got to the first city), but seeing so many restrictions already Im wondering if it´s actually viable for someone to play and enjoy this game without spending money. I would hate to play a bunch of it only to find out that I cant do shit later on, any info on this would be appreciated.
