I was surfing amazon about to buy FEAR 2 when it says "people who bought resident evil 5 also bought Alan Wake," so I click on it and it says,

    Pre-order now!
Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. Gift-wrap available. This item will be released on November 30, 2009.

So yeah hopefully it doesn't get delayed.

I haven't heard any announcement, so it might just be a random date Amazon came up with.

Can amazon do that? I mean you would think there would be some sort of repercussion if they just randomly give games release dates. :P

    You'd think so, wouldn't you?
But Amazon isn't the only retailer to do this. It seems pretty common.

There's no repercussion for making up release dates. Tons of retailers do it, as LordAndrew said. I'm guessing the game publishers really don't mind because they can gauge how many orders they will receive. The one thing that Amazon does do is that if their release date was way off, they will make you re-confirm your pre-order. I had to re-confirm twice for Final Fantasy XIII already.

That, and they don't charge you (so they say) until they actually go to ship it. So, even if they are wrong, you don't have to worry about being charged.

I'm still having a hard time with understanding why people care so much about this game. As far as I know, hardly anything has ever been shown except like a trailer, and it's been about 4 years and people are still clinging onto it like it's Halo 4 or something.

I have no idea why anyone would bother pre-ordering a game this much in advance, seems kind of pointless.

Why pre-order any games? I never do it unless I get some sort of tangible extras for pre-ordering.

There is no set in stone release date, but just a guessed release date by Amazon. Keeping it within the same year would probably entice several buyers to purchase the game. To quickly go off-topic, I feel sorry if anybody pre-ordered DNF way back when it was announced, and are still waiting.

Easy mambo jambo, why you hatas hatin on me YAAAAAaa.. GIIIIiiiiIIT MONEY OHHHHH TOOK A LICK SAID WASU-
lol no seriously dude, a) it's remedy... b) have you seen the show casing for this? it truly has the best looking landscape I've ever seen, not too mention that whole weather, and night and day system, c) the story already sounds like god compared to, say crap stories like the halo or gears trilogy, I mean when was the last time you took on the role of an author in a video game? not a big ol gunslingin badass, just a humble writer and d) well it just looks immersive, on a whole new level. If the environments are destructible or at least semi I'm sold, but I probably already am. it's gta, remedy style, kinda i guess. And what's with the halo 4 remark? I think there is one, called ODST? And how it shouldn't be touched with a 10ft shitty stick, yaaaaa..

Although most of you know by know, for those that don't Alan Wake is expected spring 2010. I just hope they manage to stick with that rough date. oh, by the way, Alan Wake looked great at E3.

For some reason, I doubt it's going to have a stable release date.

    Regarding the PC versions date...

    Via Gamekyo:

Markus Mäki, the boss of Remedy, has explained in an e-mail that it was yet to be in the position to provide a release date for PC.So he promises to announce the release date PC later.
