Alien Sky is a vertical scrolling shooter where you shoot down hostile alien ships in a very large number of levels. The game's premise is that the player is fighting to prevent an incoming alien invasion. Alien Sky's gameplay is focused more on a high enemy count than on high bullet count, with the addition of environmental hazards to keep the player occupied. Levels are designed more like a puzzle game than a traditional shmup, with tricky enemy formations that require the player to use a variety of different weapons and strategies. The player is given 10 different weapons to choose from over the course of the game, including homing missiles and screen clearing bombs.
Despite the game's age, the developer is still selling the game as shareware, with a 1 hour trial before forcing the player to pay to continue. Alien Sky has a worldwide leaderboard which is still being updated, the latest high scores coming in as late as 2016, 12 years after the game's initial release.
